So we're going to potentially burn out our starter and leave our backup ice cold until when?

I don't understand the notion that Bobrovsky will burn out. Where does this come from?

You do not know what will happen to him 2 month from now or even a week from now. 2 month ago we had a different starter.
If he looks sharp in practice he should play. I guess this concept is really difficult to understand for some fans.

The fact that he's never played a full NHL season. Give the man a well deserved rest. Also, I'm not comfortable with letting Bouch just sit there on the bench. Look what happened at the start of last season. Stevens rode Emery for a good portion before giving Boosh a start and he played terribly in the beginning.

I'm not at all taking anything away from Bob, I just want him to take a break.

Uhhh, just about every goalie who had a fast start and was overworked. When you have a goalie coming from a lighter workload, you ease them in. We burned out Emery last year (though it turned out he had a severe issue) and you can go through and see what happens in the postseason to 90% of goalies who start around 70 games.

Bob might be able to keep this stretch of play going right now, but it could cost us in the stretch run of the season. You play to win every night, but you don't compromise the future either. Boosh is still on the roster and needs to be ready to step in whenever. Doesn't hurt at all to start him tonight.

Even legit NHL veterans can often only handle about 55 starts or so a year. It's pretty rare that you get a goalie like Brodeur or Luongo and, even then, they've looked really tired come playoff time some years.

This team is going to make the playoffs and will be expected to at least reach the Conference Finals. That means that Bobrovsky could conceivable play 3 times as much as he has in any previous year of his life in the most talented and difficult league in the world.

That's why the "he's a kid and wants to play" crowd like SgtJoseph are so absolutely wrong.

It's not really rare to start that much. But I don't think any of them did it as a 22 year old rookie. That's the problem.

Quick is a good example from last year. He was burnt out in the playoffs

Bobrovsky is the likely starter tonight (per Tim P.).

I think you can run Bobrovsky out there every start right now and then when Leighton comes back give Bobrovsky a little more rest inbetween starts. Laviolette's MO is to run out the hot hand, and he has shown little faith in Boucher.

He is not far off of the average for starts among "starting goalies" in the NHL. They have also had several long breaks inbetween games. I do not foresee him getting 70 starts if that is what you mean.

let the rushkie play as i want to see how he bounces back after a loss. Especially after that winning streak. when leighton gets back then you give him a rest. the flyers record with boucher blows.

Powe has been doing just fine, Nodl is not a huge upgrade in that area, both are pretty much the same player but Powe has a little more grit. I would suppose that if Nodl does get moved up to play with Richards-Zherdev that JvR would play with Giroux-Carter which I like better anyway.

I wish the Flyers had been more patient with Downie, had not wasted the 1st round pick on Eminger, and had drafted Carlson. Take out Meszaros and Zherdev and replace them with Downie and Carlson and you have $3mill and a couple nice, young players on the roster.

So over the past few years we've argued over a ton of ****. But I really can't conceive why anyone is in favor of Bobrovsky playing as much as possible. We're going to make the playoffs and we're going to need him, and he's already put us in good early position.

Hell, if you don't wanna pace him for the playoffs, rest him so he's ready to **** **** up come our annual swoon from the December road trip of hell.

And, in addition to it really being beneficial for Bob to get some rest, Boucher needs a damn start here or there so he isn't a frozen center piece once he does get out there.

Chris Pronger has been on record as saying this when he came to Philly and there are also some quotes from Danny Briere, "Good teams find ways NOT to lose two in a row".

Yeah, really, I'd take Meszaros every day of the week at this point over Carle. I never understood the love Carle got.

Do you mean the trade which brought him to Philly? I am sure they still could have made a deal to get him. It was Eminger(toss away), Downie(prospect), and a 2009 4th rounder for Carle(unwanted in TB, and a cap hit) and a 2009 3rd rounder(Bertilsson). I am sure that a similar deal could have been made to satisfy both teams at the time.
