Outdoor Rinks

When do you think the outdoor rinks around town will open up since it just started snowing today?

Send a message via MSN to AHF
It won't be for a while.

If I'm not mistaken, we have a few posters that work at/for community league rinks, so they'll have a better idea...

I can't say an exact date but once it looks like it will stay cold a while it usually takes about a month. Most years its a week or two before christmas so we look to be right on schedule this year. This is for spruce grove anyway not sure about edmonton.

Ya, sometimes in early to mid December I would guess. Probably closer to the middle of the month though.

We should try and get one going again this year. Central location ? Or even rent some ice.

I am totally imagining how awkward and hilarious a HFboards hockey meet-up would be. You'd get people ranging from 14 to 60, some trying to use internet memes, a whole lot of "IMHO", and a lot of debate regarding goals.

snow fall doesn't affect outdoor rinks, in fact all the snow has to be cleared off before you flood. Its all about it staying in the minus.

well yeah but snow means minus weather, so they are correlated.

doesnt it only take 2 days to do it or so? Hopefully the community get on it. Castle Downs seem to be pretty good last year having about 6 small rinks.....It will be a great winter

somebody has to go out an actually make the surface, so it'll be another week.

i'm just going to stick with saturday night shinny at confed for now until the ice is actually remotely good.

At least another 20 days before any rinks will open.

I saw them flooding Meadowlark Rink (154th and 92nd I think) on Friday. No idea if it's done yet but I'd think so.

The rink at Grandview was also being flooded, I'm pretty sure it's close to done

I've seen them working on Newton rink a couple times now but I'm not sure how far along they are.

With the forecast this weekend I think that will put a little hold on things, we'll see.
