Staal and MDZ is an infinitely tougher decision in real world terms. I think Sather's trade track record should reassure everyone that he wouldn't make that deal but I can't bank on the other guys.

The cap hit is the true stumbling block. How do we offset that?

i don't see it making sense cap-wise unless we somehow got rid of drury's cap hit (which isn't happening)...and if we somehow got rid of drury's cap hit, iginla wouldn't be even close to the top of my list of targets.

if we could somehow fit another $7 mil contract on our payroll then the guy to target is brad richards

Drury, Gilroy, Roszival

for

Iginla, Regehr, Babchuk

and don't worry about NMC - Neither Drury nor Iginla would want to get in the way of the biggest rip off in history.

The one thing he had wrong on the Jets was that Darelle wouldn't be playing one game (during his hammy injury) and then Rex went against management and decided Darelle was fine to play.

The only thing he's said about the Mets was that Alderson was favorite (2 weeks before any one had said Alderson was favorite) and then 1 week prior to the press conference he said that the Mets had chosen him. Aside from that, he said Wally Backman was favorite to get the job yesterday, so we'll see how right he is.

He's been wrong about the Islanders and Yankees though. He said Girardi would be gone after this year and he resigned, he said that Doug Weight would become coach last week of the Islanders and that is yet to happen.

I'm not saying that he's right about this however the guy has some sort of inside connections and i'm just putting it out there because at this point there's no reason to think he's randomly making things up.

bull ****. In order for this to happen:

1) Rozi and someone else would have to go the other way which is not happening because... well look at the defense.

or

2) drury would have to go the other way which is also not happening because why in the world would Calgary trade for a guy that, IF he is healthy, hasn't scored 30 goals since he's been with Buffalo- Iginla has had 9 straight seasons of 30 or more.

or

3) calgary would have to be dumb enough to take a combination of white, frolov, and gilroy or EC plus a prospect

Rangers send down Todd White....

Then trade Frolov, Gilroy and Ryan McDonagh

for

Jarome Iginla

That'd work cap-wise?

The Flames can let Gilroy and Frolov go at the end.

3mil + 1.75mil + 1.3mil = approx. 6mil and we have 1.5mil in cap space now (according to cap geek)

Iginla's hit is 7mil so I think that would work

Frolov's money is already earmarked for raises for our RFAs next year.

There is no possible way we can afford Iginla without trading one of Drury or Rozy. Drury won't waive his NMC and we don't have any dmen ready to step into a top 4 role in place of Rozy.

Trading for Iginla would be a mistake, no matter who is going the other way.

How about not wanting him because his cap would make signing our RFAs next summer much more difficult, if not impossible?

That 1.5 mil is using the bonus cushion. We don't want to use it if we don't have to. We don't want bonuses rolling over into next year's cap.

Plus, McDonagh doesn't count against the cap, so trading him doesn't help.

Darryl Sutter also flat out denied Phaneuf was being shopped a few weeks before he shipped him to Toronto.

Quite frankly I'm as likely to believe something Darryl Sutter says to the media as I am an Eklund rumor.

Frolov+White+Gilroy, with actual value in prospects/picks added might work capwise.

But is it the smart move? Another question entirely.

Iggy is a great player. But he is 33 and by the time we are "competitive" (2012-2013 season?) who knows how good he will be by then.

That would fall under the "cost" category
