That's why you really can't make a trade for him, unless the obviously players get traded (Drury &/or Rozsival).

Adding Iginla to any team makes them better. He's a leader and a goal scorer. He would certainly help with the PP. Drury would have to either go in return or go to Hartford for cap reasons. I'm fine with either. Replacing Drury with Iginla has no bearing on RFA next summer. MAKE THE TRADE SLATS!

Some food for thought.

Drury has 1) a NTC. 2) He wanted out of Calgary the 1st time, dont think he'd waive to go back.

Iggy will make it super tough to sign our RFA's as Redden's cap hit is back on the books as of July 1st till he gets sent down again, which can't happen till camp. Another summer of ridiculous trade rumors & worried speculation till the RFA's get signed.

Girardi is going nowhere.

But we are playing out west vs. Colorado tonight funny enough, and thats the same way it went down when we aquired Joker last year. Probably just coincidence, but eyebrow raising worthy.

I don't think this works out cap wise in the end anyways, but would anyone else be worried about adding Jarome's "leadership" to this team?

I mean, the Rangers are in a transition of leadership to guys like Callahan and Dubinsky. Then in come Iginla and I can't believe that he wouldn't start throwing his weight around in the locker room, even if it's not intended in a bad way. Might make the young leaders on the Rangers feel like they've been undercut

Iginla was a great player. But this isn't 5 years ago. Do we really want to throw 7M at him for the next two seasons? Is he really going to score 30+ goals next year and the year after? If not, we're just trading one Drury for another....not to mention we'll still have the original Drury for half of those years. That's a big gamble...too big imo.

Iginla needs to be in a situation right now were he DOESN'T have to be the #1 leader on a team. take some of that weight off his shoulders and let his natural leadership abilities shine on the ice and the room.

That's exactly what I've heard and I agree. The perfect fit for him is in LA, though.

Unless Calgary gets a Kings ransom (pun intended) they will not trade Jarome. The backlash would be worse that when the Rangers waived Giacomin and traded Park and Ratelle.

does make a lot more sense. besides, we can't afford to offer up a prospect that would be of brayden schenn's value

the only way this could happen

iginla, staios

roszival, frolov, kundratek, grachev, 1st

cap increase and rozy off the books accounts for iginla's cap number next year. i don't know how much better the team is as a whole bc the D would take a hit

I don't think there's a complete guarantee about a $5-6 million cap raise, is there?

If this would be Drury for Jerome straight up, I am down with that.

This seems unlikely at best.

Onward.....

That's not how the cap works anyways.

Each day of the season, a player is paid a portion of his salary (with regards to the cap). At this point in the season, Calgary has paid 1/4 of Iginla's 7M cap hit and we have paid 1/4 of our players contracts. The cap space we have available, however, doesn't shrink as the days go by the way the player's contracts do.

Edit: Really hope this doesn't happen. I don't think Drury, White, Eminger, Gilroy, Christensen or Rozsival lands Iginla and those are honestly the only players on this team I don't mind moving. I wouldn't give up ANY young assets for a 7M Iginla at this point in time. I'd rather keep what we have and if we feel the need to add another proven scoring threat look to free agency this summer.

Okay, WHY IN THE HELL WOULD THE RANGERS TRADE FOR HIM???
1. Multiple, credible, twitter acount sources have already said that the Flames ARE NOT shopping him
2. Sather isnt trading young players for Iginla
3. WE DONT NEED HIM! We have Gaborik who is a star right winger!
This comment is NOT aimed at anyone, just saying that nothing will go down.

In his last 73 games, Iginla has 18 goals, 32 assists and is a -13.

He's toast and not worth what it would take to trade for his star name, which is all he is at this point. Unless Calgary is stupid enough to sell their marquee player for spare parts, I wouldn't even consider a trade for him.

is it embarrassing than we can joke around with horrendous offers to calgary and yet its probably an offer the flames would consider?

That's the analysis:

http://*******************/articles/...perstar#page/3

Quote:
Another issue is the cap. The Rangers only have about $1.5 million dollars in cap space, which means Iginla wouldn't fit in. New York would have to send back a package worth at least $5.5 million to make up for Iginla.

A package like that could include players like Valcav Prospal, Matt Gilroy, and possibly even Ryan Callahan. Callahan is the unlikeliest of that group to be traded, but multiple news sources have reported that the Rangers are in fact shopping Gilroy.
