You're quite right, Moneil18. And between the time the Quebec Nordiques ceased to exist, and the Nashville Predators came into existence, I hardly watched any hockey at all. Actually, the only hockey I really followed was the women's hockey during the Olympics. Jayna Hefford kicks @ss! There's a player the Predators could use. Stick her at center and see how we'd improve!

Anyhoo...

Thank you This is the weakness that could be strengthened/erased by trading Crosby to Philly. Just think of the complete powerhouse you guys'd be in oh 4 years. Right now goaltending, defence and wings are there. Now when it comes to centers. Crosby adds the number one position now. My trade proposal has one upper center position already addressed with Handzuis. Carter maybe could be ready but he's probably ready in a year after an AHL stint with the odd cup of coffee. Richards, maybe two years. Draft what you want with the extra pick. Not only that but lots of depth options are realized instantly, someone gets hurt someone gets called up. No need to rush anyone into a spot where they're not comfortable and trade off the ones you don't like to maybe fill a goal position down the road or what have you. I'm not saying it's an absolute answer just food for thought.

With the shoe on the other foot, who would you trade to get Crosby if that's your liking?

Yeah that came across rather rude. My understanding at that time was that they needed more fans, but yeah they needed a larger building to get the fans in there didn't they? I was also lead to believe they were after some type of gov't funding before they folded shop which didn't set too well with me IIRC. No hard feelings, glad you've found another team to watch though.

One last question for Smokey. You state emphatically that Lindros was injured in a more meaninful way than Forsberg. Yet on another thread suggest Jason Allison might be the answer to your center woes. Now don't get me wrong , to be fair you said it was risky, but..

and i'm just going to stop there.

to be fair..we said Allison would be an intriguing RISK to take...and hell, so would Lindros...if they were willing to sign a low base contract with some incentives. Say...2 million base...and if they hit 30 goals, it goes up to 4 million or something like that.

Hey, I'm on your side on this one. A very intriguing risk. Unless of course you just happened to watch someone like a relative healthy Oates just end his career in a most embarassing way. I'm still stinging from that.

Indeed I did. Even toyed with the idea of adding a 'g' too, but wound up spraying coke through my nose all over the flipping monitor for the troubles of this little joke. I must say Smokey it wasn't my intention to tease, just having fun with that last one. Should've used one of those damned smilies. Would've saved us both a lot of work.

Handzus would address a top 2 line need now, but I'm not sure he's a top 2 liner on any type of Cup team, something I'd like to see us become in 5 years. And Carter and Richards are not exactly guarantees to even be top 3 line NHL centers. You can argue till your blue in the face. Your logic rests on your opinion of Crosby and my logic rests on my opinion of Crosby. To you, a quantity for quality deal works. To me, it doesn't. And I doubt it would to pretty much any team in the league.

It boils down similar to the Forsberg-Lindros trade. We have to hope that Carter or Richards turns in to some sort of world beater. Or that the first rounder, which will likely be in the 20-30 range, turns into something special. While odds are that one or two of the three will turn out nice, I'm not holding out hope that either of those three will turn out to be a first line center. I think a nice projection for all three would be Carter as a second liner, Richards as a third liner, and who knows with the first round pick.

We have to hope for one of three unknown commodities from Philly to turn into a superstar, or we have to hope Crosby gets injured and has a Lindros-esque career. Pardon me if I just don't want to take the chance.

Some call it a joke, others just called it a 'typo'.
