JvR trade

I personally think JVR will be a bust of a 2nd overall pick. I just don't see the competitive steak necessary to be a great power forward. He might end up being productive somewhere else but not dominant like Pitkanen did. I think the flyers should definitely look into trading him, perhaps for another underachieving prospect who needs a new start. What do you think about JVR for Filatov or JVR for Bogosian trade?

Why deal him now when his value is at a relative low?

Again, it's amazing to me that a game where played 6 minutes on the 4th line and finished +2 with an assist is taken as further evidence that he's going downhill.

It's more like the last 100 games where he's scored 12 goals. Or 6 in his last 69.

Pitkanen is an interesting analogy. But a forward version of Pitkanen would be good enough to be a 2nd line winger, and even that is in doubt for Van Riemsdyk right now.

They should send him down to the AHL. But if Holmgren does trade him, I hope it's not for an equally struggling prospect.

You're nuts. You don't trade a player like JVR during his second season unless he really, really is desperate to leave the team.

It's sort of tough to gauge where JVR's head is.

I agree that he doesn't seem particularly mean or hard nosed, or as if he has a burning desire to win like some guys, but he also doesn't seem like a cry baby or quitter from his interviews after being scratched for a few games. Maybe a few more months of frustration will make him a little nastier.

I have to say though, that he seems to me like he is going to be a second line player, even once he puts it all together. Not that there is any shame in being a decent second line winger.

Haha. No way he gets traded or should be traded. I don't think he'll ever be a super star in this league, but he will be a solid crash the net type player at some point in his career. Definitely shouldn't be traded.

I wanted Voracek. And I would've taken Turris over him too back then, and still would today despite the fact that he's a natural center.

Yeah, lets give up on a prospect after less than 1.25 seasons

Voracek isn't a world beater, and Turris isn't either. Turris is closer to a bust than anyone else drafted in the Top 10.

The '07 draft is essentially 1 person deep right now, and the 2 best players after Kane (Sutter and Perron) weren't even Top 10 picks (unless you consider Sam Gagner, who I'm not convinced would make this team). If they redid that draft today in the same order, I think they're still taking JVR.

The Flyers right now have the luxury of bringing JVR along as he needs to. There's no rush for him to be a superstar this season.

Although, I'd be disappointed if he's short of a half-point per game and less than 20 goals

his other post is about how the Flyers have to trade a defenseman for cap reasons, so they should trade JVR for Bogosian.

Yeah, because Voracek and Turris (especially Turris) are doing oh so well.

I don't think its that he lacks a competitive streak, its that he doesn't have a mean streak - those are two different things. He can get away with a missing mean streak and be a successful player, but he'll never get the most out of his talent. I still want to see him in Orange and Black though, unless he draws an offer the Flyers can't refuse.

Last I checked he was getting third line center duties in Phoenix. Just checked and he has six point, four G in 15 games apparently.

I am not ready to give up on the kid. However if the right deal came along I would move him. Come on JVR we are pulling for you.

JVR will be a great player in time. There is no reason to trade him, especially with his cap hit being so low atm

I think people should have more patience with him. Someone else brought this up in another thread but look at John Leclair's statistics. I bet the Habs wished they had held on to him for a few more years. I'm not saying JVR will be like Leclair, or as good as him, the point is that it may take some time before he breaks out, if he does.

http://www.hockey-reference.com/play...leclajo01.html
Also note LeClair didn't even play his somewhat full season until he was 22 and put up 19 pts., JVR started last year at 20, and put up 35 points (granted 19 of them were in Oct. and Nov.). Yes, LeClair progressed in his second season unlike JVR is currently, but it's not like he put up stunning numbers, and his second and third seasons were almost identical statistically. - The point is players take time, and trading a young player who may have the potential to be very good if given the opportunity does not make sense for the Flyers at this time.

There is no harm in keeping him for another year or two at least. What do we need that we would be getting for him? We have a number of people who can score, we have defense, Bob is doing well in goal, and Boosh, and Leighton are good backups and can start if needed.
