I question how they are handling his development. He needs to be playing everyday, preferably high minutes. Playing 10 minutes or so on the 4th line is not going to be good for his development. I wish they would send him to the AHL to play 20 minutes a night.

Could not agree more. He showed tonight that when given the opportunity he can make things happen. He may not have the Midas touch now, but just give it time and it will come.

I'd rather throw Powe on the fourth line than Zherdev, but I'd rather have Zherdev on the fourth line than JVR, and I want JVR in our top 9 as much as I want Nodl there, which at this point is a lot.

If Nodl can go from having the net presence of OKT into what he is now, then JVR can certainly turn back into what he's supposed to be.

I believe there wwas an article on ESPN stating how not to be surprised about the lack of JVRs development due to his lack of playing time from being draft at high level competition compared to others. Ill try to find it and get back to you.

Agreed with everyone saying he needs to play, and on a scoring line. He'll be fine, but he needs time to develop.

I'm still not seeing how the power forward label fits though. It's not a knock on his game, it's just a role I don't see him fitting. I'm thinking more of a defensively-responsible Huselius. I consider that a compliment, although I'm sure some won't.

Seriously, if JVR, Nodl and Powe impress more than Zherdev does in the coming months, do you see Zherdev being the one that is traded?

I can't wait for the playoffs. Imagine this team without Shelley (and with Carter at C).

Zherdev - Carter - Giroux
Hartnell - Briere - Leino
JVR - Richards - Nodl
Carcillo - Betts - Powe

I'd think about maybe switching Giroux and Nodl, but then again Nodl is doing great with Richie right now.

Give JVR more time. This thread is ridiculous.

I respect the more time aspect, but I just don't see the desire in this guy. Flyers management has questioned it every year since he was drafted: First when he went to college versus juniors against their recommendation, then when he went back to college for a 2nd year, again at the world juniors his last year, and now this year with him being a healthy scratch and placed on the 4th line under Nodl and Powe. I was thinking a trade now while his value is still very high.

Value aside, why the heck would the Flyers give any weapons to Pittsburgh, one of their strongest rivals? The only way the Flyers deal JVR to the Pens is if the deal hurts Pittsburgh in some way. In other words, it won't happen.

WTF? The dude has barely started his NHL career. Giroux wasnt exactly dazzling last year until the playoffs and people wanted him traded. WTF are y'all drinking? While I'll agree JvR would benefit more from playing top line minutes in the AHL, fact is he is here, and is playing with a great group of players. The Flyers are fortunate they can have a high draft pick/prospect learning on the NHL roster and have to put little pressure on him to perform. This team is stacked and deep at forward, so he can play bottom end minutes while watching the other 9 forwards work. They dont need him to produce, and Lavi benching him shows he is watching and wants him to work on his game. Besides, isnt Adirondak a **** storm right now? Why send him there. I thought James had a great game last night, he was noticeable, used his size well, forechecked well and created a few opprotunites, including setting up that amazing goal by Nodl.

The comparisons to LeClair are fair. He had "underachieved" for a few years in Montreal before being traded here and becoming the greatness he was. JvR certainly has that potential. I dont wanna give up on him yet. I dont think i would have played him in the NHL last year, but it is what it is. Hopefully Lavi keeps working with him and maybe that benching helps create that "mean streak" in him.

Seriously though, who else thinks that JVR will turn it up and Z will be the odd-man out by the time the trade deadline rolls around?

When will people realize big forwards like him take time to develop? Its really not helping him with the limited playing time. Also there is some holes in his game that can be fixed with more experience. Its a learning process for him.

People really have no patience.

It's not like the guy is lost out there and not showing anything. He's just having trouble finding the back of the net. He's hit a ton of posts this season, too.

Rangers I think... unless his ultimate goal is to sabotage all things Flyers. I mean how come anyone hasn't mentioned that the kid might have grown up literally hating the Flyers, and now his sole purpose is to be as bad as possible so that we underachieve or end up trading him for scraps so he can then light the league up and play up to his draft position!?!?!?!

If I personally was drafted by the Penguins, i'd miss every empty net I could find
