Love this kid, good to see he's gonna get an opportunity to stick around a bit.

Hopefully he pots his first goal.

Zherdev gets benched?

It better not be JVR, and it can't possibly be Nodl.

Likely Bartulis, unless there was an injury last night. I wouldn't rule out Van Riemsdyk being a scratch tomorrow night though.

They wouldn't they call up Wellwood to sit bench like Bartulis was. That doesn't make sense.

JVR is coming off his best game of the year.

Zherdev was dropped to the 4th line for JVR less than 10 minutes into the Washington game.

No it definitely couldn't be Nodl. If I were to guess it would be JVR. His doghouse keeps getting bigger and bigger every game.

I hope it's not JVR. He's playing better than Zherdev.

I'm hoping for:

vanRiemsdyk - Richards - Wellwood
Hartnell - Briere - Leino
Carter - Giroux - Nodl
Powe - Betts - Shelley

That would make me happy, but I doubt it's happening.

I guess it has to be JVR or Zherdev. I think it's much more likely to be Zherdev.

I disagree. Zherdev is frusturating because he is all flash and dash with not much results, but atleast he actually gets the puck and is very dangerous. With JVR its almost like he is lost in a fog and doesn't know where to be on the ice and can go completely unnoticed for most of the game.

Not necessarily. JVR quietly wins battles on the forecheck. He's run into the same problem Nodl had for a while where he's not getting things done around the net. He's hit so many posts in the last couple games it's insane.

Zherdev on the other hand is a liability. He's playing with energy since getting benched a while back, but he's still not exactly perfect. There's a reason he was dropped to the 4th line for JVR in the last game.

Either way, I'm curious if Wellwood's second call-up is as successful as his first.

Yes but thats just one game. I can quite confidently say that Laviolette has been happier with Zherdev's play the last little while than he has been with JVR's.

What the hell has Zherdev done to warrant so much support? I see people upset with how he's being handled in a few threads, and I don't get it.

If Zherdev or even JVR would back-check and go into the corners like Wellwood does they would never, ever get scratched.

Well, he definitely tries hard out there. Since he got benched, he's definitely been trying to be better. You can see it, and it's fairly obvious.

Trying hard is not going to get him a free pass against JVR though since JVR is trying hard as well.

JVR also doesn't overstay his shifts, he doesn't dangle alone through defenders and lose the puck, he works hard down low along the boards on the forecheck, and he knows to stand around the net.

The last few games, especially last game, JVR was definitely going into corners.

He has 7 goals. I realize he only has one more point than a guy like JVR but JVR has 0goals. Like I said previously, yes Zherdev is an incredibly frusturating player but there is no doubt that he has game breaking ability. Even though 9 times out of 10 his solo rushes are going to be thwarted, there is the possibility that he will break through and pop one in. He is the definition of a game breaker and not a lot of guys possess that ability which makes it hard to take him out of the lineup.

Zherdev got taken off the top line and played on the 4th sparingly last night while JVR took his spot and played well. What exactly is the last little while if it isn't the most recent game?

Sam Carchidi was saying that Lavi was happy with JVR's play in the last game and should stay on Richie's line. He said Z figures to be on the fourth line . If Wellwood plays Z sits, IMO. Z seems to be creeping back into the doghouse the last couple of games.

I'm guessing comrade Z will be a healthy scratch. Getting demoted to the fourth line is usually followed by being scratched. JvR was on the ice on a high line and set up what would have been a gwg.
This game is on TSN, I'm excited to see Wellwood play on tv
