I don't have a working computer with photoshop at the moment, but I was thinking of cutting out that picture of Wideman skating away after the goal, looking dejected, and pasting it on a bunch of other shots of guys celebrating. Even put it on some famous pictures like it was all Wideman's fault every time. Even non-hockey pictures. Anything with a group of guys celebrating.

Dunno, I thought it was funny because people blamed Wideman for everything.

In the glory days, that was refered to as the Carmichael principle, because a kid named Carmichael was paired with Orr in t-camp and wowed everyone in attendance.
It's a smart way to go, putting Sims as a rookie with Orr, Milbury as a rookie with Park, Bourque as a rookie with Park (in the playoffs, I know he played much of the season with fellow rookie McCrimmon), Bourque had McLaren as a rookie, then Gill as a rookie. Gill got Boynton as a rookie. It's standard, smart practice.

But Wides wasn't the right partner for Chara, because Z has skills and needs a sturdier, somewhat-physical partner to play up to his own offensive potential.

In answer to the OP, the Bruins absolutely miss a high-end PMD, but they need one who's a great skater, tempo pusher and sturdy defender. BMW met none of those prerequisites.

He's got a long way to catch Jumbo Joe.

It's all a question of emphasis on the title of the thread.

Why DO the Bruins miss Dennis Wideman ?

I view this as fact. And unlike some other transactions that are worthy of ongoing debate, I think the Wideman - Horton deal is met with universal approval. And it should be.

Have to ask why we need to keep going over and over the same Wideman stuff?

Seems like the same couple of people keep regurgitating these threads. OK, good deal, move on. Otherwise the same people keep on saying the same stuff, over and over and over.

If you want to make the thread about the need for a PMD, well, that's been done too but at least the potential trade targets keep moving so it's at least somewhat interesting.

Is it just me, or does this type of thread (over and over) get banal like fast?

They could always use a PMD, but the return is too good to question. Horton is a stud.

I feel like I should step in and defend Wides on here like usual, but there's really nothing else that needs to be said.

The Wideman-Horton trade was necessary. The B's needed a pure, scoring winger, and Horton filled that void.

Whether or not the B's miss Wideman's passing/whatever is a moot point at this point...Horton is here because Wideman's not, and as much as I like Wideman, if he were on this current B's team and Horton wasn't, I don't think the team would be as good as they currently are.

I'll still pop in to defend Wides from time to time, but for now, I'll let my defense rest.

I love the USA and I love this board... They both allow you do something that most places don't.....

If you don't like something, DON'T READ IT, WATCH IT, COMMENT about it!

It is amazing the people who complain about something somebody wants to discuss. It is clear in the title what the thread is about, just don't read it. There are a bunch I NEVER open and read....

Now, back to the point of the thread.

Widemans O skill set is clearly missing. As an example, when you have Ference playing a lot of minutes where I think Wideman would be, our transition game is a JOKE!

Ference is like that REALLY GOOD SKATER on a youth hockey team who is USELESS because he doesn't know how to play, where to go, how to make a play etc. He skates fast, gets the puck and throws it away or bangs off boards to NO ONE!

So yes, Widemans skills are missed, but the trade has been very good for us.

Unfortunately I'm a Canadian. Canadians are communist, so I am not allowed to comment. Wonderful for you though.
