I think the guys tried, they're just not talented enough...
I think there was effort tonight, just failed to apply it in a smart manner. Too many lost battles on the boards where we outnumbered the Jackets, but failed to properly support the puck. Lost D side positioning too often leading to odd-man rushes against.
On the Nash goal, Tootoo controls the puck behind the net and gets checked by a Columbus D. Erat comes in to support, but instead of staying on the D side of the puck (high), he goes low and the puck of course gets kicked out the opposite way and then is ringed around the boards past O'Reilly trapping all 3 forwards deep and leading to the 4 on 2 against.
Lots of examples like that tonight.
We've struggled all year against teams with a big, mobile defense. Tonight was just another example. When they take away the neutral zone, we have to dump the puck deep and establish a forecheck to open up room. When we're unable to do that...we spin our wheels applying a lot of effort with little to show in terms of results.
It's frustrating for sure and I don't exactly know what the answer is right now, but I wouldn't be opposed to Poile looking around the Eastern Conference to make a deal to shake things up...we can't go through the entire season like this...
Can you please start aiming for Erat's leg again since you're not aiming for the net anymore, AND to have him on the LTDL.
Dear Preds Management:
New coach was brought in for columbus...notice where they are in the standings now??
