Seriously AV? Seriously? We've got this much "talent" on the 4th line and Desbiens, Bolduc, Rypien, Bliznak, Perrault + Schaefer were ALL WORTH THE ROSTER SPOT OVER BRENDAN MORRISON???
Yeah, I don't think I could rationalize giving up Morrison at the beginning of the season either for Schaefer.
A guy coming in, has history with the team, is a hard working defensive forward, loves to be in the city, and doesn't get in and instead a guy who gets picked up off FA and then waived a little past a quarter into the season.
That situation probably pissed Morrison off quite a bit, I know I would hate that. Still, it's not like it's Vancouver who is the only team who makes these sorts of decisions, but every time, it usually comes back to hurt that team who doesn't acknowledge that player, and hindsight is 20/20..
Calgary seems to be enjoying him though. Solid player, probably great dressing room leadership.
It's not as simple as the Canucks not wanting Morrison. I'm pretty sure he wanted a bigger role. Hard to say though as we weren't there. But I don't think it's as simple as picking Schaefer over Morrison.
On the topic of Schaefer though, he's pretty soft for a 4th liner, seems a bit out of shape, but is a decent PKer and good on the boards. Doubt he gets claimed.
He wasn't good, but at least he could do SOMETHING (good boardplay + PK). Now our 4th line has no discernible talents, no not even hitting. I was so stoked for our 4th line this preseason.
Schaefer(good two-way player/PK)-Morrison(PK/PP/ability to make things happen offensively)-Oreskovic (Crash+Bang, probably the best hitter on the team)
Now our most talented 4th liner in every category is Glass.

With Schaefer in breach of contract for not reporting to Manitoba after clearing waivers, he goes through waivers again to become a UFA.
So since he cleared and refused to report to Manitoba, can they just terminate the contract if he clears again? I can't imagine anyone would claim him this time around.
It seems like AV is finally getting the message. I'm guessing that either Gillis or ownership, or both, have talked to him.
- Ditch Schaefer. Check!
- Agree to let our entire defence play together for a string of games. including Ballard. Check!
- Replace Samuelsson with Burrows on the Sedin line. Maybe tonight?
It's funny, really. I was extremely stoked to see our bottom six before opening night only to have that dream crushed within a week. No Morrison. No Oreskovich. Terrible Schaefer. Now we're stuck with the same, bad, 4th line as last year. Glass, Rypien, + whoever.
