We should go out and re-sign OKT so we can trade him for another Leino.
I am talking about guys in the jay wells, terry carkner, glen Cochrane, luke Richardson , hospodar, jeff chycrun (sp), mold of dman who could fight and it was part of their role. Guys who played on the bottom pairing more or less. Neither of those guys are in that mold.

I was in my developmental stage of fandom when he was here, but wouldn't Dan McGillis fit in the bruiser category. I recall he was a big hitter and often got himself out of position to make the hit.

Actually, he has some wheels, a puck moving dman and a quarterback on the PP. Logs in 27+ minutes a night, most recently closer to 35. Rarely find him out of position. He is not a goon by any means....but drops them when necessary, and not afraid to do so

The only one of those d-men who were any good was Terry Carkner. He was one of those rare offensive defensemen who could fight and play defense. However, once he got to Detroit, he became strictly a defensive defenseman. Terry Carkner of back then would certainly be a top four defenseman today.
Luke Richardson might have been great in terms of lateral acceleration, but going north to south was painful to watch. Ed Hospodar was nothing more than a glorified punching bag/tomato can. Glen Cochrane's shoulder couldn't hold a straw without dislocating and Jeff Chychrun was horrible hockey player. He couldn't skate, couldn't shoot, couldn't pass, and could only hit and fight. Even Jody Shelley is a 1,000 times the player that Chychrun ever was.

I assume that was more of a rhetorical question but apparently he is playing with Modo which I find kind of surprising (though I know almost nothing about the SEL).And he's an assistant captain.

Wells was good, Cochrane was also good. Chychrun was fine until crowder more or less ended his career. Before that he was fine for his role. The boxcar was also decent for a bottom pairing guy. For bottom pairing guys they were fine. Not so sure about Carkner being a top 4, maybe I guess as a #4. It is close. He struggled big time in Detroit if I remember correctly. Went to florida and played much better.
Brandon Manning played hard to get, and over the weekend the Philadelphia Flyers came and got him.
The Chilliwack Bruins' standout defenceman from Prince George signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the NHL club on Saturday.
The Bruins announced the deal on Tuesday and Manning will stick with Marc Habscheid's improving squad for the rest of the season before turning pro.
Manning returned for his final year of junior despite an AHL offer from the New York Rangers, whose training camp he attended.
Chilliwack, he said at the time, was his best option.
"Philly stepped up with an offer kind of out of nowhere," said Manning, the Bruins' captain who leads all WHL defencemen with 26 points this season. "Their first offer was Friday and by Saturday afternoon we had it done.
"I don't know if it's really sunk in yet. It was definitely a relief that it was a quick process and I don't have to worry about it the rest of the season.
"I'm excited and happy and looking forward to playing professional hockey."
Edit: just found out Manning shares my birthday. Len Barrie and Derian Hatcher are the only other Flyers to have shared a birthday with me to this point.

Even though we keep trading our picks away, I'm happy to see Homer make the rounds to fill up our prospect pool. I'm really hoping Pither, Testwuide, and Manning can contribute in the near future.

Ive seen this kid play in person a few times and he actuallys reminds me alot of richards, needs to work on his skating but he has that same gritty will to win attitude and makes up for his slight lack of skating ability with effort and skill
