Canes shopping Staal?

not sure how connected Mathew Barry is but he's a kings blogger and he cliams the Canes are considering trading staal.

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Matth...ades/125/31675

I doubt it happens but if he was being shopped who could fit him under the cap? he's on the books till 15-16 with an 8.25 million cap hit.

who could be interested? maybe LA? they have been looing to make a splash for a while.

the Rangers? he and Gaborikk eould be deadly.

who could fit him in if he were moved?

our team could obviously use him
our management could find a way to fit him
our management would never pull the trigger to get him

LA would seem like the best destination...have the room...the team that is looking to win now...have the prospect debt to get him

Staal to LA for Simmonds Schenn and Teubert

I can't imagine it. Players at his age of his caliber aren't traded very often, or on a whim.

If it did happen, you can bet 29 teams would be interested.

Any team who wasn't stacked up the middle or right at the cap would definitely be interested. This seems like a bunch of crap though. I've probably got more sources than this guy.

He's the face of their franchise and their captain, why would they shop him? Didn't realize it was hockeybuzz when I clicked the link, I swore not to give that site hits. Figures it would be someone from that site.

Well, let's see:

- It sounds completely unreasonable, and unrealistic
- It's coming from a Kings blogger
- It's coming from a blogger
- It's coming from a person from hockeybuzz
- It's coming from a person on the internet

Rest assured, it's safe to invest in that Staal Canes jersey; he's not going anywhere. Probably ever.

Why would Carolina even think about trading Staal? Unless he asks out, there is no way management entertains an idea like that.

NOT clicking that link.

For what it's worth, (1) Caroline tried to get Jordan Staal, (2) has traded for Jared Staal, plus Eric Staal (3) has a humongous contract, (4) is the face of the franchise, and (5) the all-star game is in Carolina.

NOT happening.

The only time you will see Eric Staal leave Carolina is on the plane to away games.

If he was around 30 years old, maybe I could see this being true. But he's so young — whatever their plans are, he fits them.

Eric Staal will "never" (let me emphasize NEVER) be traded from Carolina during the duration of this current contract he just signed.
Lets look at this simplisticly.
He is 26 yrs old.
He is in the 2nd year of a 7 year mega contract.
He is without a doubt one of the top 3 centermen in the league.
He is the piece the Hurricanes will build around.
Shall we continue.........

Nothing to see here folks, move along.

I told myself I was going to stay out of the "Staal trade proposals" this year as they get somewhat silly, but I'll 2nd the comment that is bolded. Staal might be the only viable All-star from the Canes roster this year and with the all-star game in Raleigh, it would be ridiculous to trade him.

I also find it interesting that he has been "offered to a number of teams", yet only this blogger has heard about it.

I am a huge Staal fan but I have to disagree that he is one of the top 3 centermen in the league.
Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos...........Then debatably better Backstrom....Getzalf...... Sedin..Thornton...Toews... Datsyuk

As a Kings fan let me tell you, ignore Barry at all costs. The only stuff he ever gets right is he will get a injury about 24 hrs before we hear about it. But his trades are always off, in the offseason it was Hickey is gone within 48 hrs.....nothing. A week ago it was Hickey is happening for Wheeler (the day we played Boston).....nothing. Now this Staal rumor he prefaced by saying its because Carolina is in financial troubles similar to Pho (he posted on another Kings forum)......even if that had anyyyyy semblance of truth, why would they trade the one guy that could sell tickets for the team??? Let alone is the face of the Hurricanes.
