I like to think that Lavi had a hand in bringing Syvret back.

He played Lavi's system so well last year, I often thought he was our 4th best dman (behind Pronger, Timonen and Carle) before he got injured.

To me, he is the front-runner to be our 6th dman next season (sorry, Bart).

Brendan Ranford

Just saw his stats, 37 points in 23 games for Kamloops of the WHL, 21 of those points being goals. Looks impressive for the 2nd to last pick in last years draft. Has anyone seen him play? Has he been as good as his stats show?

Thanks

What's more impressive is that Homer actually had a draft pick last season...

But, really, isn't this all you need to know:

Im kinda busy, and I dont think Chris is on to explain it, but look in the last 2-3 pages of the Prospect thread for more info.

His biggest flaw was his skating ability, which for a smaller guy needs to be really good. From Blazer fans, they said he worked hard during the summer and his skating looks alot better. He had the offensive skillset and knowledge but skating held him back. Now that he fixed that, and continues to work on that and his speed (he is a small guy so he will never have size), he has looked really good. There are some people that are saying that he will atleast get a tryout invite to the WJC for team Canada. He makes that, I think he becomes one of our best prospects. Thats nothing easy to make.

Wow, I didn't think this guys was going to amount to anything. I believe he's only 5'9 and from what more knowledgable people on prospects haave told me is that usually any inch below 6'0 you are drops you a round in the draft(aside from the obvious highly touted guys). That means he most likely has the talent of a 3rd or 4th rounder and if what sacyred said is correct he could be a solid prospect. It's also impressive that he's not an older kid tearing it up, I think he's still 18?

Sa cryed covered most of it for me already, but there's a bit more information available on HF now.

Head editor, Ian recently got a chance to put Ranford's (and some other) page up on HF for me:

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/brendan_ranford

Ranford was also one of two junior prospects among all NHL teams to be mentioned in HF's "Leading the Rush" category in our monthly feature "On the Rush" for November. I worked with Ian to write it, but he did most of it...and did a good job I might add.

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/article..._november2010/

Quote:
Brendan Ranford, LW – Kamloops Blazers (WHL)
Drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers
7th round, 209th overall, 2010

Drafted in the seventh round, there was no question Ranford was a project player, his skating was subpar, particularly his stride, and his offensive output was inconsistent. Early into the 2010-11 season, some of those concerns appear to have been put to rest. In the 21 games Ranford has laced up for this season, he has gone without scoring a goal in only five game and has been held of the scoresheet entirely only three times. In total, he has 20 goals and 13 assists in 21 games, only nine goals shy of matching his entire output from 2009-10.

Much of his breakout season can be attributed to a gradual improvement in his skating ability, particularly his sloppy stride and lack of explosiveness. He’s still not the fastest player on the ice, a palatable concern for a prospect who is only 5’10 and 186 pounds, and he still loses foot races to the puck. In addition to gradually improving his skating, he has also improved his play away from the puck, better utilizing his awareness and putting himself in a position to create more offense and score goals.

Ranford was a late addition to Team WHL for the Subway Super Series and while he didn’t register a point in the single game he played, the experience should be nonetheless beneficial to a player who has seen limited post-season and tournament play in his career.
He will also be a part of the Flyers' Junior Update which should go up in a couple days at the latest.

Michael Remmerde, formerly of the Red Line Report, said he has 2nd round skill and hockey sense, but his skating made him a mid round talent. He thought he could be a steal in the middle rounds.

As a Kamloops fan, Ranford is all of that and more. He got into a fight the other night and is suspended for 1 game, and got involved with Nino Niederriter but he's not afraid to fight or get feisty and go into the dirty areas of the ice. Right now he's on pace for 70 goals and 122 points in the toughest league to score in. And he's shown he's not about to slow down.

He's scored 21 goals and 16 assists for 37 points in 23 games out of a 72 game season.

21/23 = 0.9130 (x 72 GP) = 66~ goals
16/23 = 0.6957 (x 72 GP) = 50~ assists
TOTAL = 116 points
37/23 = 1.6087 (x 72 GP) = 116~ points

Still impressive.

Last year he went 72 GP - 29 G - 36 A - 65 P - 0.40 GPG - 0.90 PPG.
Now he's pacing for 72 GP - 66 G - 50 A - 116 P - 0.91 GPG - 1.61 PPG.

I don't think I'm missing any of his numbers so where are you getting 70 goals and 122 points from?

You really gonna get that picky over a 6 point difference?

Not really. I just turned in an article that involves his numbers, so when you posted that I freaked out thinking my numbers were off. I had to go and double check.

yes, actually. there are a load of vandermeers who play hockey. 3 or 4 of them played in Richmond, and they were always fan favorites.

they're all pretty good at distributing beatings.

i believe that Jim is the only Vandermeer who didn't play a season on the Renegades, as well as the youngest...in his case, it's likely because the team folded haha

Chris Schaber, the guy who centers Ranford (and from some of the passes Ranford has gotten from him, looks like a pretty good player) will be suspended for the next two games (was suspended for the last game, as was Ranford).

Im actually looking forward to seeing how Ranford plays without Schaber.

Oh and fun little fact. You know that Emerson Etem guy that Anahem drafted with out 1st round pick last year? He currently has 24 points in 21 games, playing with the 3rd player in points in the league Linden Vey. Yes, our 7th rounder is outscoring him

Not picky enough to subtract the suspension game from the projections.
