Bill Guerin, an 18-year veteran of the NHL who just celebrated his 40th birthday, is set to announce his retirement after the Thanksgiving Holidays and join the Pittsburgh Penguins' hockey operations staff in January, according to a tweet from Inside Pittsburgh Sports.
The tweet also mentions Guerin will work closely with assistant general manager Tom Fitzgerald, and his scouting base will be in the New York area.
****ing awesome! For two reasons, really; Guerin is by all accounts an awesome guy and this means he won't be trying a comeback tour on Sid's wing.
Seriously though, very glad to have Guerin in the organization. Not sure how important his role will be or what sort of things he'll be able to do, but it's cool to have the guy around.

Id love to see him pass down some of that knowledge to Tangradi and eventually Bennet. It really was depressing to watch him last season, you knew the heart was there, knew the brain with almost 20 years of experience was there, the body just wouldn't go... Just was simply out of gas.
But if he works with our young wing prospects I would hope he can pass a chunk of that knowledge down. It would only make them better.

it sounds feasible, though. i wouldn't be surprised if he's holding out to jump in somewhere late in the season a la satan last season.

That is the first website I have ever seen blocked here. Is hockeybuzz blocked too?
Bill Guerin went to see a WBS game the other day and spoke on radio about keeping himself in shape (?) - as he still would like to play a bit more - still waiting for the phone to ring and keeping his options open, but apparently he was invited to participate in the preparation for the game and was on the bus with the guys.
Also, he said he was still having talks with people in the organization (like Fitz), asking for help about his future. He doesn't wanna be a retired guy that watches TV all the time and plays golf everyday.
Anyways, that would be awesome. He's a great guy, everybody likes him and could very well be the guy that hangs around and talks to players on a personal level. He could help us to solve some little/big issues.
