No question if someone called for Staal, Rutherford would listen...but I wouldn't read into it too much, it's very unlikely they move Staal when they are still hopeful to make the playoffs with the current roster. They also picked up Staal's brother in the off-season. Can't imagine they'd do that if they were looking to move Eric.

The value is definitely there. We would need a PMD, though.
I think it's instant.

With him, Gaborik and Lundqvist? Pretty instant to me.

I'd much rather move Drury for him if the Canes would take him. Would allow us to keep Rozsival. Doubt they'd go for it, but who knows?

Not really the same situation.

First, Tampa had 3 star players (at the time) to worry about from a salary standpoint (St. Louis, Vinny, and Richards). It would have been difficult to keep all 3 so chose to keep Vinny and St. Louis.

Second, Carolina has zero bonafide stars beyond Staal (some might argue Ward..but that's a stretch). Trading him is trading the face of the franchise and the one guy who probably puts more people in the seats than any other (by far). You couldn't say that for Richards at the time as the team still had Vinny and St Louis.

To Kings:
- Jay Harrison

To Hurricanes:
- Hand-written promise from Matthew Barry pledging to stop creating rumors involving Eric Staal and Tim Gleason going to the Kings.

Sounds fair.

This. Tampa had a ton of money tied up in Richards, Lecavalier, St. Louis and Boyle and needed a #1 goalie. The Hurricanes only have significant money tied up in Staal and Ward, with Ward being a #1 goalie. The Lightning were dealing from a position of strength (first line forwards) to address a weakness (goaltending). The Hurricanes are dealing from a position of weakness to....what, add more "depth" and "prospects"?

Obviously it's very unlikely that he's traded, but what contribution do these posts have to this thread? It's just one person who thinks he has this absolutely knowledge that other people simple wouldn't understand.

I guess that's what you get on a site flooded with a bunch of high school drop outs.

The only way we see a guy like Staal get traded is if he requests to be, honestly. No matter how tight the Hurricane management may be on money, you can't trade away a player like Staal.

once hulsizer takes over ownership for the coyotes in the coming weeks he will want to make a big splash and Eric Staal could be that guy.

He would be attracted to that package, as would any GM in the league... just not at the expense of a 26 year old, Stanley Cup winning, Gold Medal winning, 100 point threat, captain center.

100 point threat? He's done it once.

That package is more than enough.

Well what linemates has he played with? Nobody does more with less than Staal save for Crosby.

Okay, we'll add a 2nd.

I agree with your comment. The package has the value, not to mention saves the Canes cap space. I realize you eat the cap space with regards to keeping a guy like Staal, but it's not as if the package isn't one-sided in terms of cost to the team.

Lets look at this simplisticly.
He is 26 yrs old.
He is in the 2nd year of a 7 year mega contract.
He is without a doubt one of the top 3 centermen in the league.
He is the piece the Hurricanes will build around.
Shall we continue.........

Nothing to see here folks, move along.

Crosby and Stamkos are the only centers I'd take over Staal at the moment.
