Kokanee.

Heck, even a Pilsner as long as it's cold.

This thread reminds me of a great story. It may be TL/DR

A buddy of mine played in the British National League for almost a decade. I went to the UK to stay with him for a couple of weeks during the season several times. They had a tradition where a member of the visiting team was awarded "Man of the Match." The prize was a box of beer.

We went to a game in Guildford and one of my friends roomies won man of the match. He was presented with a case of Banks beer. It was dark, in large tins and had those little widget thingy's inside that you get in a can of Guinness. It was warm and since it was not Labatt 50 we decided to put it on ice for a bit before imbibing.

When we got back home the "Man of the Match" and I decided to dig into the beer, everyone else went to bed. We began smashing some Banks and watching a Russ Meyer film on the TV.

After about 4 or 5 Banks, much gratuitous violence and an endless parade of huge breasts I went to take a drink out of my can and poured the beer down the side of my face. I ran my tongue around my mouth then went and looked in the hall mirror to find I had chewed a hole in my bottom lip.

I turned to my drinking buddy and asked, "What do you think of this beer?"

He said, "I can't feel my lips or my tongue. I think it has Novocaine in it"

We finished the beer because it was our only option other than going to bed. It is really terrible, terrible stuff and by the time I went to bed I couldn't feel my entire face.

Moral of the story. Only drink Banks beer after hockey unless you are going to the dentist to get some surgery.

sappora might be the worst beer on the planet

I'm gonna have to go with anything from flying dog, abita Turbo dog, blue moon, Honey Brown. Best beers after a good hard skate.

I thought you all might like to know that most public or privately-owned rinks specifically state that no alcohol is allowed in the dressing room.

In fact, some of them will have a big sign on the wall saying just that.

Goes without saying it should be cold and plentiful.

Old Style Pilsner was my last team's beer of choice and it hit the spot pretty nicely. Wherever possible, I prefer two things--be budget conscious and support a local brewery wherever possible. Cariboo(made in Prince George, BC) is one of the cheapest beers on the market, is actually a pretty solid beer, and the company donates some of their proceeds to re-forestation in the Northwest due to the pine beetle problem. So a pretty good incentive to support.

But really after a game, it all comes down to being cold. Almost any beer is refreshing after a good game. I usually avoid anything fancy(most imports) and never anything light.

Sapporo isnt bad. A lot of the sushi restaurants around here have it and its an acceptable alternative when my favorites arent available.
To me, it tastes a lot like Miller Genuine Draft (which in it's own right its a bad beer).

Brooklyn, Troeges, Harpoon, Bluepoint, Sierra Nevada, Anchor, North Coast, etc etc. Micro brews all the way.

This. A Russian Imperial Stout is always good as is well made porter or IPA. There's a micro brew about two miles from my house that makes a fantastic stout that's good anytime, especially after a game. I actually wait until I get home for my post game beer as the guys who bring beer for our team bring one of the "big three" bud, coors, miiler - beers I won't won't let get anywhere neat my lips. Call me a beer snob if you'd like.

Sapporo is Japanese beer but they merged with Sleemans a couple years ago and the stuff is probably brewed in canada as well as japan now. A lot of imports are actually brewed locally under license.

And I have ever only been in one rink that actually enforces that policy. And that was becuase they were protecting sales for the bar upstairs.

If a rink employee comes into the room and says that beer isn't allowed, that's usually code for "give me one and I'll shut up".

PBR... don't knock it until you try it after a game. Beer after hockey shouldn't be fancy.
