I have a bad taste in my mouth from yesterday. Or maybe it's because I just woke up.

Either way, make me forget, Flyers. Just win.

Normally, I'd be pleased with a victory. Today I want embarassed debbies and a crying Kovalchoke.

The Devils will feel the wrath of Christopher Pronger and Michael Richards.

I don't know if it's because it's early and I didn't sleep well, or what, but I think that's one of the funniest pre-game comments I've ever read.

Got to play solid game.

Hopefully Zherdev won't end up playing on 4th line.

Use yesterday as fuel for the rocket we launch at the Devils. Blow them to smithereens. I know we're not supposed to kick a team while they're down, but screw them. I hate Devils

He's going to be the most maligned 30 goal scorer (currently on pace for 27 with limited ice time) in the league.

Or Lavy is going to turn him into a stud by the end of the year. In Columbus and NY it was tough to take a heavy hand with him because they needed him to be competitive offensively... not so much the issue here, so Lavy (similar to what Hitch did with Hull in Dallas) can be rather forceful in ramming it home that Zherdev needs to be better on the other side of the puck.

I know that he hasn't been great defensively but he hasn't been hurting the team. It may well be the case that he's just been consistently bailed out by the goaltender but, aside from that, it's not like the other team is scoring a great deal when he is on the ice. He's been on the ice for 10 goals for and 7 goals against.

He's also drawn 9 penalties and taken 2, the same as Claude Giroux.

I think the problem Lavy has is that Zherdev gets lazy on the backcheck at times, and he also makes some unnecessarily high risk plays with the puck coming out of our own zone. The former is a general compete level defensively (a problem for a lot of guys of Zherdev's talent-type--including Briere), the latter is just a safety issue.

On the whole, I think Zherdev has been a positive addition to the team... but he can be better/improved. So, hopefully Lavy can accomplish that without losing him mentally (worst case scenario).

I will say, I'm far more alarmed by the goals against for Richards and Giroux than what Zherdev has or has not been doing. Richards is riding at 2.60 GAON/60, and Giroux is at 2.41 GAON/60 -- neither strong numbers on this team given the goaltending we've been getting.

Well, yeah.

As for Richards and Giroux, they do need to tighten things up a bit. They are scoring a lot, it's true, but without the PP clicking they really need to step it up.

Also, it might just be me, but it seems like the other team's secondary scorers have found success... success that they shouldn't be consistently getting.

Richards' problems are at least explainable by the fact that he continues to play, by far, the hardest shifts on this team. However, it's still so early in the year it's tough to get a real read on how this will all play out, and we have a host of guys playing at an unsustainable level as far as positive production as well.

O'Donnell and Meszaros are on pace for a +58 and +51 respectively. That strikes me as highly unlikely to hold out... but who knows, if we keep scoring and keep getting the level of goaltending we've had to this point, you never know... then we have some goofy shooting % (Giroux and Nodl)... Briere on pace to have more goals than assists... etc.

We're starting to hit the point of the season where things settle down... the team also hasn't hit a serious rut yet (which it always does, even with our best teams).

What I'm interested in is what Laviolette will do once Carcillo's back.

Over whom?

Powe is the only guy that Zherderv (arguably) deserves to be taking minutes away from right now on the Giroux line, but Powe is serving a role on that line that Zherdev doesn't really fill. So, I actually like that Lavy is spotting the two on that line.

Fact of the matter is that the majority of the forwards on the roster have played more effective shifts than Zherdev to this point, and the PP is very competitive on this club... though, given the struggles, it wouldn't hurt to get him some time on the PP to see if he can make a play happen with the extra space.

Well, what should happen is that Shelley takes a seat in the press box... what will happen is another matter all together.

The best team we can make involves an effective Zherdev in the top 9, with a 4th line of Carcillo-Betts-Powe.

Z's goals per icetime stat gives a different story.

Oh, I think we all agree that that's the best option. But I don't see Shelley being scratched.
Again: Can't wait for the playoffs.
