If BAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA can break out of the zone or QB the powerplay, I don't see the joke.

Like a few people have said, it's Eklund. Take it with a grain of salt. He said last week that the Canadiens should trade for Tomas Vokoun. He's an idiot, and I only read his stuff for laughs.

It's no secret that the Sharks need a top four defenseman with some offensive upside. Leopold and Montador are playing out of their minds right now, but I don't want them. They obviously aren't going to give up Myers, and I do not want Rivet and his cap hit coming to San Jose.

Yeah but getting Stafford back as well at least means we're not losing out on a forward with some potential. Butler's not ready for top four duty yet but it would create good competition between him, Demers, Braun, and the other young guys.

There are no words which properly express the ridiculousness of that idea.

You'll get dumber and dumber by reading what Eklund writes. Please don't do it.

It's entertaining though, we have to give him a hat tip for that.

The team needs to change. Normally there is a path of sitting second tier players in the box (like McGinn), demoting top 6/4 players to lower lines (like Seto), bringing up AHL'ers and sitting established players (like Heatley, Pavelski, Vlasic), and perhaps a minor trade before a big change is made. I don't think we are at the major trade point in the timeline yet so don't really believe the rumor. A minor trade is a possiblity and closer to in-line with the timeline but I don't like the likely return or the discussion of giving Seto in trade for one of the defensemen in the thread.

I don't think we have exhausted the path at this point, but the player that I would like to take a look at is Marc-Andre Bergeron who has been cleared to resume play from the doctors. He would fall into the 'minor trade' category in my above pathway and while not a complete solution to the teams defense corps, is a UFA so we don't lose talent in a trade.

He would make closer to League minimum on a one-year deal, and when we do make a trade for a top 4 defenseman he would be a very comfortable fit on the team as a first pair on the PP with Boyle and a bottom pair on defense or a spot player on the third of fourth forward lines. His versatility can be a bonus if we keep get some injured bottom line players. It would depend a little on Demers injury and recovery but in the end, I would see him possibly replacing one of Huskins or Wallin.

We already had this on Bergeron in another thread. Read the numbers. He is not the answer, even partially or as a small step.

Missed the past several days with T/G and missed the thread. Thanks for pointing it out.

As I noted, I don't see him as a solution to our defensive problems. I see him as a potential (stopgap) solution to Demers being injured for an extended time, not giving up existing talent, and not getting in the way once we do make a good trade for a defenseman. Its a minor move and the kind of move that DW should consider before making a 'blockbuster' trade as this rumor discussed.

But I don't have a problem with your POV that he's not a partial solution to our defensive problems since we need a top 4 defenseman and he isn't that. We need a puck mover and he isn't that either. But we do need help from the point and as a mid-season injury replacement with some speed, its not a bad interim solution.

Since there is another thread on this as you note, I will stop posting here about MAB.

The point is that the youngsters are better stopgaps than MAB. He is that bad. Braun has shown as much and more than MAB in two games.
