6 months is the norm for an ACL tear. I don't think he rushed it.

6 months for what? To walk? To run in straight line? To play ala Markov? 6 months is a freaking minimum and with the team playing decently, he should have kept training lightly/recovering.

I admire his devotion and his love for the sport, but this is a mismanagement of assets. They should have extended his contract an extra year at same salary or around and then, they should have told him to take it easy (i.e. recover first) and play for his next contract next year.

I think Markov will get a 1 year deal from us, and next year will have the opportunity to play hard and negotiate for a new one.

tsn said the swelling hadn't gone completely down and they were hopeful a proper evaluation could still be done today.

still too much swelling to do a proper test??
does he still have a knee left?
shouldn't take two weeks to get all the swelling down
ESPECIALLY with the doctors and training staff the NHL teams have access too

As soon as I saw the knee flex I knew it was the ACL I have had 9 yes 9 knee operations since I was 16 and the first ACL repair I had was 18 months to fully recover and come back. The other issue is that once torn it is never the same and will be even more succeptible to tearing again and again. His knee is now going to be twice as easily injured with 2 tears than a perfectly normal un injured knee. He should have been out till atleast Jan IMHO from suffering similar injuries and coming back too quickly I did nothing but re injure my knee.

I thought when they fixed the knee that they used a ligament that was perfectly healthy to replace the other one, meaning that once healed the new one would be better than the old, does this make sense?

Also, he would have been wearing a brace, would this not help avoid future ACL and MCL injuries going forward?

I'd rather have my feelings hurt than have him out for the year.

Hoping will make your feelings hurt.

Having him back this year will not.

It's a complicated statement, my brains hurt.

What I mean to say is I don't see him back before the playoffs. I hope I'm wrong.

Knees man...very very complexe part of the body and once they are messed up, you're stuck with problems for the rest of your life. That and back problems...the worst !

Poor Markov

I have a custom ACL brace for my knees I wear it for many activities playing hockey is not one of them. It is uncomfortable to wear under my goalie pads so I don't wear it I know many guys like that they won't wear it under their gear. Seeing how his knee flexed I would venture a guess he was not wearing his.

If still no word, he probably died while giving him the scan.

Is it just me or are others curious about how long it has taken the Habs to make an official announcement on Markov or to put him on the LTIR? This would save them cap space wouldn't it? (or can they put him on the LTIR retroactively?) Is there any possibility that he may not be as badly injured as widely believed? Thanks.

Montreal radio station CJAD has reported that Habs head coach Martin has not ruled out the possibility of Markov returning to the line-up later in the season.[/url]
For Martin to say anything - especially something this positive - only gives me hope.

They have not yet ESTABLISHED how badly he is injured. Most of the "diagnosis" we have heard have been from less than reputable sources, probably just looking for more listeners or hits.

Still no official word about how long Markov will be out? It sure takes a long time to figure out what is wrong with him.

That would be a blessing. We could then trade him before he gets a career ending injury.

When Markov comes back, he'll be a target. Every opposing player will try to hit him in the knees

Markov is out for the season.......he's just looking for a sketchy way to be able to play some games because he's UFA this summer.

Markov will be signed this summer regardless of his injury. He will make good money.
My guess is that he wanted a long term deal that will secure his future. No matter the number of games he plays this year, he will likely sign a one year deal.

Like a 1 year, 3 mil deal. Loyalty is important, but we are not having a piss poor D squad next season because of loyalty...
