Mods - update the thread title.
Say please and I'll think about it.

I'm waiting for ink to dry before I do anything.

Someone needs to put a bullet in the damn Indy... what a terrible waste of tax dollars. Hows about we finish construction projects within a reasonable time frame before we worry about subsidizing random motor races. Who even follows a 3rd string racing league... lets get a dman Formula 1 race in Etwon and I will follow that shiz.

Agreed.

This is a largely failed, declining product that perennially loses markets and is only in Edmonton due to erosion of indy support and market share in the first place.

In Toronto they couldn't get people to come out and were giving tickets away just to create the illusion of support.

Not sure why taxpayers should be paying for any of it.

Great news. Can't wait to buy my tickets, one of my favorite events of the year. (coming from a non racing fan)

This year there should be even more activities during Race Week Edmonton too which will be fun

So is this thing still rumoured to be happening in September this time, rather than July during K-Days? They better do a damn good job of putting on a good event this year.

The Indy has had ****** marketing in the past and that is a big reason why it has lost money. If this Octane group does it right, the Indy should be a great success. As they said, driving in from the International Airport to the race, there was no way to tell the Indy was in town.

Make this a race a huge deal - like the Grey Cup festivities are doing for the CFL - and it will become a money maker.

This is tautological. Anything that's a big deal is a money maker. The question is, how much investment would it take to turn the Indy into a big deal, and what kind of money would it then make as a return on that investment?

The CFL and Grey Cup are already a Big Deal for Canadian sports fans and so it doesn't take a lot of work to create a party atmosphere in the city hosting the championship.

It's a fascinating case study. Less than 20 years ago the reigning F1 champ left to race in CART - and less than 5 years after that it was blown up by bickering and power struggles.

Too true.
My brother was working a coop term in Peterborough last year summer... he mentioned the only time he ever heard of Indy Racing (including during Toronto's Indy race) was when a radio station was making fun of Edmonton for randomly turning it into a big event during Edmonton race whilst the circuit is pretty much ignored every where else.

That's really the issue in my mind. Having taste of Edmonton, Klondike days and the Indy right in the middle of the summer is too much.

Well Northlands did its part by ending Klondike Days and replacing it with the Capital Ex that nobody likes to free up room on peoples summer calendar.

Here's a new concept for a fair:
