L.Leblanc, M.Bournival & B.Gallagher Invited to WJC Selection Camp

http://www.tsn.ca/world_jrs/story/?id=343404

Louis Leblanc, as expected, is on the list.

As are Bournival and Gallagher.

(MOD: Can you modify the title to note that all three are there, not just Leblanc.)

That's great, I must admit I really enjoy the WJC but when there isn't a Habs pick on the team I don't have the same interest. Last couple of years with Price then Subban have been really fun. Hope they all make it

Leblanc's chances to make it are probably good but do Bournival and Gallagher really stand a chance to make it? Is it possible all 3 (or even two) of make the team or would that be a pipe dream?

Arpon Basu reported that Bournival wasn't invited to the summer camp, so he had to play his way into this camp invite. Maybe he has a chance has a 3rd/4th liner.

Depends on the team make up, I guess.

Unfortunately, both guys kind of need opposite situations to make it.

Gallagher is tiny, so that works against him, but if he has a good camp, he's the type of kid who can excel in a tournament like this. If the team feels its weak on scoring, I don't see why they wouldn't give him a whirl.

Bournival, I imagine, goes as a shutdown center or nothing. Not sure if there is one in camp who would do a better job, but in recent years, Canada has learned it cannot take 22 scorers and hope for the best.

So I'd say both are long shots, but if the team feels it needs more scoring, Gallagher gets a look, and if they are light on defensive forwards, then Bournival gets a look.

Looking at the forwards:

Carter Ashton
Michael Bournival
Brett Conolly
Sean Couturier
Cody Eakin
Marcus Foligno
Brendan Gallagher
Curtis Hamilton
Joey Hishon
Quinton Howden
Ryan Howse
Ryan Johansen
Zach Kassian
Louis Leblanc
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
Brandon Pirri
Brad Ross
Jayden Schwartz
Riley Sheahan
Riley Smith
Linden Vey
Garret Wilson
Casey Czikas

I think the bolded are probably locks, but that's only 6/12 forwards. I think Bournival and Gallagher would be in the "second tier" with guys like Schwartz, Ross, Sheahan, Hishon, Howden and Ashton. It's tough to say, and it also depends on how they want to assemble the team. Usually Team Canada's bottom-six are energy/PK types which might squeeze out Bournival and Gallagher as they strike me as more "top six" types. A lot depends on what kind of camp they have, so we'll see.

Pardon my ignorance. Why has Leblanc missed his last couple games with the Montreal Juniors?

Assuming Louis isn't seriously hurt. Leblanc should be a lock to make the final roster.

Gallagher is second in WHL goal scoring. Quite the offensive spark plug with Gionta's stature.

i saw the opener of the vancouver giants (just to watch him) and i was not disapointed he was all over the ice. I dont remember exactly but i think he got like 4 pts that night and he was used in all th facets of the game. I hope he makes the final cut for the juniors.

Strange that the #2 scorer, Brendan Ranford, didn't even get an invite.

would really suck for louis to have his chances of a WJC appearance affected by an injury....again.

I can't see Gallagher making it, he's just not the right mix of player for me there... they have bigger, faster guys who can still bring the scoring. Bournival would have to fight for a bottom-6 energy role. It's such a large group of players fighting for that spot, he will basically just have to make as much noise as he can in camp and hope that some others can't keep up.

Hopefully Leblanc is close to a lock for the team, anyway.

?

If you look at the link it's an article posted specifically in RDS' QMJHL section...and they give the full list of invitees anyway, so what's the problem?

I think Bournival as a chance to make it on the bottom 6 as he is very responsible defensively.

It's because they had info before the actual list came out, Stéphane Leroux have been saying the names for a week now.

Congratulations to our three young prospects for getting the invite. I can't remember when we had 3 forwards get an invite to the camp. It's been awhile. The recognition that we have 3 players in the CHL that are worthy of this camp is exciting for our organization.

I'll be watching the jr. camp even more keenly this year.

I wonder how soon these younglings will be ready to join our real team. 2-3 years?

More?

Which others also have a shot? Tinordi? Avtsin? Trunev? Nattinen? Bennett? Simila?

Leblanc will likely spend next year in the AHL (and perhaps play a few games with the Habs if he does great) then have a real shot the next year. If the Habs try to keep him at center (I hope they do) then there is no rush to bring him up with Eller already on the team and our other centers being locked for years.

There are no clues as to when Bournival or Gallagher will join the Habs. Under 3 years would be surprising.

And obviously anything can happen ; one two or the three of them could never make the NHL for us (lets hope not. unlikely for Leblanc, not so unlikely for the others), one two or the three of them could astonishingly become stars very fast (a la Subban).
