yes, I have learned in this thread that the 3rd team overall got there through lack of effort and work, and also that a 1 GAA, .960% performance sucks.

With the depth in goal scoring we have, we could have 6 players net 25+ goals and people would complain we don't have an elite scorer.

Except it wasn't. At least it wasn't a brainfart.

I'm not calling them lazy, because that is a stupid argument, but they do have histories of starting out games really badly under both Stevens and Laviolette. Just something that sticks out and really bugs me. They also have a history of taking bad penalties. Whether that's because they're being lazy or undisciplined doesn't matter though (in the context of this discussion).

Having legitimate criticisms isn't the same as being mad at this team for not winning every game.

My favorite over-the-top reaction was someone posting on Facebook that thanked the Flyers "for ruining my weekend." If those two games ruined your Thanksgiving weekend...

I watched the Calgary game, but missed the NJ game due to helping my wife clean out her late uncle's house in Maryland. He died earlier this month. Taking care of real life puts sports in their proper perspective. Sports will still be there when real life settles down. Thank God.

If anything I would lean to attributing the penalty problem on them trying too hard. They don't take that many lazy hooking calls but more of the type of slashes and high sticks they get from not giving up on the play and really trying to battle for the puck. Not making an excuse for that, because it's definitely an issue but i don't see laziness there at all.

As far as the bad starts, It was a bigger problem under Stevens but still exists to an extent... this season though most games they have jumped out to leads so I'm not sure how big of an issue it really is right now.

I personally love Hartnell's patented stick-your-stick-in-the-dude's-skates-for-no-reason maneuver.

every single game:

Hartnell: I wonder if my stick will fit between the ice and his skate...i'll just do this...why yes, yes it does.

While I like having Hartnell on this team and have routinely defended him when folks have called for his head... some of his penalties seem like he's testing the league to see if they're serious about that whole tripping/slashing/hooking section of the rule book.

he seems to disagree with a large portion of the goaltender interference section as well. if anything, he's at least amusing.

I really don't have a problem with him taking the odd goaltender interference penalty, to be honest. If opposing goalies think they're going to have to deal with him, it may give the Flyers an edge to have them think he's about to come barreling in.

Agreed. No problem with keeping goalie's honest, but Hartnell, Carter and, even moreso, Briere, need to get control of their sticks.

Well, there's also the fact that Hartnell is pretty much our only player who actively tries to screen the goalie. He's also one of a few that even try to work around the net on a constant basis.

Albeit the fact that he's not too good of a net presence.

Someone's got to keep on top of those bass turds.

Carter and Leino make their way down there also, from time to time. But you're right, not nearly as often as Hartnell.

I think we were a little spoiled watching Knuble, who is one of the best in front of the net.

I recall, Pronger tried to do that job and ended up in a sin bin.
