His development has taken major hits over the last couple of years. He never showed the drive to live up to his draft position. I think he can play in the NHL, but he won't be a top 4 on a cup contender unless he gets major development.

Coach doesnt like him. Murray has given him every opportunity to make it as a Sen, including giving him a 1-way 2 year contract that he by no means deserved. That being said, Lee never deserved a top 6 spot. He has weak work ethic and didn't provide anything that we didn't already have in spades on our D-Corps. Hale brought a physical presence that offered more than anything Lee could contribute. I think he will be a good D-Man in the future, but there was no way in hell he would break into our group.

Without even seeing him play this year, I know he's better than Bret Lebda, lol.

Arguing whether he's better or worse than David Hale is losing sight of things. The barometer for success of an NHL defenseman is not David Hale. The fact that we are even arguing it shows that Brian Lee is the exact type of player that nobody should give a **** about losing.

Bryan Murray is pretty much a joke. I don't know why so many Sens fans defend him. They went from elite contender to mediocre the minute he became gm. You can say Muckler was responsible for a bare prospect pool, but ultimately it is the current GM's responsibility to put a competitive team on the ice. Muckler did that, Murray did not. Waiving a young talented player when they have so many other clods on their roster is a head scratcher for sure.

During Muckler's tenure, the only players we drafted that are in the league are Elliott, Regin, Meszaros, and Eaves. I'm sorry but you can't build around that. Murray was forced to overpay for 3rd and 4th and 2nd line players because there was no one to take their place.

This afternoon on Team 1200, Gary Galley said Lee is a really nice kid and a good enough player to be the NHL though maybe as a 5th or 6th defenceman.

He also said its hard to play your best game when the organizaion does not believe in you.

Just a quick perspective hit for everyone who's calling this a stupid move:

Even the fans of our AHL farm team, the Binghamton Senators, want nothing to do with Brian Lee.

This guy had nothing more to offer our organization. End of story.

Only because our organization virtually ran him out of town, expecting him to live up to a #9 overall pick (which he would not) as opposed to a bottom 4 d-man (3-4-5-6), which he could well still be.

We need to straighten a few things out here. Everyone criticizing the organization and defending Lee basically has their head up their ass.

Management hates him? Management gave him a two year, one way contract. For some bizarre reason no one has been able to understand.

Bad asset management? He was a bad draft pick, that's it. He's been on the trade block since the beginning of the season, and NO ONE WANTS HIM. Ottawa's only choices in this situation is to either;
a) Let him sit in the press box
b) Waive him and either he gets picked up or sent to the AHL.

He's a lousy defenseman who is a 6/7 at best, and has shown little improvement since he turned pro.

As has been said, Bingo fans are terrified of him being passed on, because they don't want him there. He's been criticized numerous times for caring even less when he's in the minors, and not putting forth any effort at all.

He was a complete bust with Ottawa. Maybe a team giving up on him will give him the kick in the ass he needs to actually start trying, but I doubt it.

The mistakes made by the Senators with regards to this guy were drafting him in the first place, and giving him a ridiculous contract.

Seriously, Sens fans, I know we all hate Bryan Murray now, but wake the hell up.

I have never been so sure a "top prospect" would bust as I was with this guy.
