Malakhov cost us Pavelec.
Gauthier cost us Matthias and Emmerton.
Biron cost us Brennan.
Timonen and Hartnell cost us Blum.
Prospal cost us Panik.
Sbisa and Bourdon cost us Umberger.
Patrick Hersley and Ned Lukacevic cost us Gauthier and Zucker.
Carcillo cost us Upshall and a 2011 2nd.
Eminger cost us Carlson.
Carle cost us Downie and Eminger (Carlson).
Pronger cost us Sbisa, Lupul, Palmieri, and Etem.
Meszaros cost us 2012 2nd.

Don't trade for Gauthier and we get: Matthias, Emmerton,
and Zucker.

Don't trade for Malakhov and we get: Pavelec.

Don't trade for Eminger and we get: Carlson and Downie

Well, we keep Downie and we don't get Carle basically.

Those are the only avoidable trades. Biron made sense. Timonen and Hartnell made sense. I guess Prospal made sense. Pronger was completely necessary, and Meszaros was a great deal for us.

What, we could have had someone named Zucker or a stud prospects like Brennan or Emmerton but we don't? Fire Holmgren right now!!!!

Thank you, Chris, for demonstrating what great deals Holmgren has been making for the Flyers over the last few years. Great work.

It's amazing that almost all of the guys we acquired by trading picks worked out fantastic for us, or filled a key need at a key time.

And now we've got a team full of great young players, locked up for at least the next couple years, with a great mix of character vets... and some good help on the farm. Looking good all around.

Malakhov played fantastic for us on a team that was a few injuries away from winning the Cup. So what if we missed out on Pavelec or whoever, we had a great team that year and it was worth it....(I still blame that whole fiasco on Roenick. He had the zone cleared at the end of the first period of game one, but carried it back in the zone and lost it - Modin got it and shot, breaking Ragnarsson's hand and that was us done in. JR clears the zone, we might've won the Cup.)

Getting Biron and Timonen/Hartnell was key to getting Briere signed too. And all four guys played admirably for the Flyers, three of them still are. Blum and Brennan aren't even in the league yet, if they ever make it.

We got Gauthier when we need a big hitter on D. Prospal helped get us to the ECF. Getting rid of Upshall helped rid the locker room of a characterless party boy and got us Carcillo and cap room.

The Pronger and Timonen/Hartnell deals will go down as two of the greatest in franchise history.

I'd trade a future 2nd pick for a great D man like Meszaros any day of the week, or two guys like Downie and Eminger for Carle. We've got two young studs on D, plus Coburn. Great deals.

Sorry, but I don't buy into the view shared by so many on the HF Boards that all future picks or no-hope prospects toiling in the minors are worth more than productive players actually playing in the NHL.

I don't think anyone would deny Downie's talent or skill level, but when he was here he was a real discipline problem. He needed to be traded to force him to grow up. I'm glad for him, he seems to be growing up. Carcillo fills the pest role very well, and he's fast too, so he can play anywhere in the lineup.

And we got Carle for Downie and Eminger. Young top 4 stud Dmen are harder to find than wingers. Realistically, Downie would be playing behind Carter and Leino right now for sure, maybe not Nodl, so he'd still be our 3RW while Carle plays big minutes in the top pair.

yeah who needs prospects and a future! we have the worst group of prospects in the entire NHL. that doesnt bother you?
you really going to blame JR for not winning the Cup that year? there was sequences before that, that could of been avoided. blaming JR is well, assinine.
still would like to see what it would of cost us had we taken our chances in free agency in getting Timonen and Hartnell.
Gauthier freaking sucks. big hitter on D? how many of those big hits put him out of position. Overpaid in trading for him and we overpaid in trying to get rid of him.
I dont mind the Meszaros deal now consitering hes been our best defenseman so far. At the time I didnt like it. We will see how this goes if more of him is asked which was a problem in Ottawa and TB.
Carcillo doesnt have anywhere near Downie's skillset. both of gotten into trouble, give me the guy with skill who can get under peoples skin over a guy like Carcillo whos fast who im sorry is not a top 6 player. Just because he looked good on the top line for a couple of shifts doesnt mean he is.

Kudos goes to Rick Tocchet for getting Downie to learn how to keep things in check and how to play on the edge without going over it. Tocchet should be running the show in Adirondack right now. I guarantee that if he were there, the crap show that went on earlier this year with Idiot Stick would have never happened.

i think the only time hew really "lost it" was in the LA game when he and Doughty went at it. Other then that hes been a effective player for TB.

Unless they have changed the rules, yes, one player has to make the team.

They typically select one veteran player as a captain for each squad. Perhaps they would name Hamel one of the captains? If not, Gustaffson with his 15 points and -19?

Ranford got "Just Missed the Cut" for Prospect of the Month of November.

Staff Calder Poll should be released soon as well.

He'll be on a short list with some great defenseman, three of which are on Eriksson's blueline; David Rundblad, Tim Erixon, and Adam Larsson.

EDIT: Wow, Rundblad's no longer eligible.

His play has leveled off a little bit. His stats gone down a bit to 2.67GAA and .916SV% compared to the very strong start that he had.
