Hell, if he brings energy and plays with some snarl I am all for it. I don't even care if he puts up a point(obvious exageration) as long as he creates something with his speed and tenacity on the forecheck.

Goals for the opposite winger on Gaborik's line:

1) Get the puck
2) Get the puck anywhere near Gaborik so he can shoot

Avery is an ideal fit for Gaborik's line. He is one of the best skaters on the team and can keep up with Gabby. He always attracts attention on the ice and if the other team is taking any focus away from Gaborik, I don't see how that's not a good thing. I think this will work. Like others, don't think Christensen belongs.

Big LOL at Fitzy who constantly rips Avery (and yet all his comments make it sound like he thinks Avery is supposed to be a 30 goal scorer) and then defends Erik Christensen.

Absolutely hilarious.

Glad Avery's getting more ice time and I think it's worth a shot but Torts is just a dart thrower it seems like.

Has Anisimov played with Boogaard and Prust this season? He did wonders with Shelley (yes, a much better player) and Prust at the end of the season. I recall Anisimov saying how great it was working with big wingers. Not saying he should be on the 4th line but those 3 were on a tear. I'd imagine we'd see that experiment sometime during the season. Hopefully Torts can double shift Anisimov like that once in awhile.

I hate Avery, but I think he has a ton of untapped offensive potential.

That means reduced ice time for AA because Torts can't afford to have those other 2 guys, especially Boogaard, out there that much.... Not a big fan of that idea... It was nice last season but AA needs to stay with talented linemates or at least guys with more hockey sense & finish than Prust & Boogaard.

I think he has decent skill, decent enough to play with Gabby, but Stepan has been more consistent. However, he's still young, and not used to such a rigorous schedule. I understand if E.C. swaps with Stepan throughout the year.

No one has stepped up to show they have more chemistry playing with Gaborik, than E.C. usually does. Stepan has been consistent all over the line-up. So I don't think he necessarily has more chemistry with Gaborik than Christensen. So, for what it is worth, E.C. is still the best fit with Gabby when Stepan isn't on that line. As much as we may not like to admit it.
Meh, I don't think anyone who doesn't show emotion like that and who, to me, looks like he doesn't care on the ice should be getting that ice time. It really bothers me.

Two things about Avery. One, I think Avery plays much better with talented players. A previous poster mentioned his success with Jagr. Two, I thought he played well with Gabby during the few times together last year. It's not an ideal but I think they can do better than the Frolov/Gabby combo.

If Avery can play like he did earlier with the Avery-Step-Feds line I think the line will be good. Avery was making some beautiful plays.

Just hope you guys are ready for everyone to get butthurt and make fun of us for having Avery on the 1st line .

HOW DARE YOU!!!

Torts, and EC will lead us to the Stanley Cup this year!!!

EC is the most skilled player in the NHL to never stick with a team, only demonstrate his talent for 10 second bursts at a time, 5 games apart, and still deserve a top line job! I shouldn't be so hard though, he's a great team guy, when he's not stabbing them in the back!

Torts really does pick line combos out of a hat..

how does someone play on the 4th line one game and on the 1st line the next?

Renney did the exact same thing with Isbister and Hossa.

This will be the only time I defend Torts, but he really has little to work when it comes to front end talent...

That said, playing 4th liners on the 1st line is pretty fruitless

I've been advocating this all season. Avery and Gaborik is going to work.

Although I'm mad Christensen is still there. Avery and Stepan had good chemistry at the beginning of the season, plus Stepan really had it going playing with Gaborik.

Avery - Stepan - Gaborik
Dubi - Boyle - Cally
Frolov - AA - Fedetenko
Boogaard - EC - Prust

seems too obvious to me.

Oh, Isbister, I remember what a failure that was. I'd like to say that Renney did the same thing with Voros but for some reason he was playing in the top 6 even after his flukey hot start.

Speaking of 4th liners, it's good to see Boyle back with Feds and Prust. He belongs on a lower line with those two as opposed to playing between Dubi and Cally. Boyle had more ice time than Cally the last game and I was starting to fear that Torts would give him top 6 ice time on a regular basis. Boyle is effective in the bottom 6 but he is out of his league when he is put in bigger role than that.

I usually disagree with you, but this lineup really does make too much sense not to try it.

I was also thinking kind of outside the box here:
Perhaps at some point:

Callahan Stepan Gaborik
Dubinsky Anisimov Avery
Frolov Christensen Fedotenko
Prust Boyle Boogy

and when everyone's healthy:

Prospal Stepan Gaborik
Dubinsky Drury Callahan or Dubinsky Anisimov Callahan
Frolov Anisimov Avery or Frolov Drury Avery
Prust Boyle Boogy

Switch Anisimov and Christensen. And scratch Boogaard.

Avery. Anisimov. Gaborik
Dubinsky. Stepan. Callahan
Fedotenko. Boyle. Prust
Frolov. Christensen. White

Jesus... I swear Torts has ADD. Just wants to see every damn permutation for just long enough to get stale (in his mind) & then try another.

Centre is a 3rd defenseman that takes the draws and set up plays when team has a puck. Stepan is worse that EC in own zone and on FO.
Playing Avery on second line with Gaborik (our first line is Dubi-Ani Calli) is an inevitable blow to Frolov who sees the LA Story all over again.
