Pretty sure players have to accept the Assignment to the Minors. Plus they have to Clear waivers. Anyone of those brakes down and you lost them for nothing.
No Gm is keen on losing Roster players for nothing.
For what it's worth, I think that if a players clears waivers and is eligible to be assigned to the minors and they refuse, that they can be suspended without pay and are in breach of their contract.
They only have to accept loan agreements.
The buzz I've heard though is that Sturm might end up on waivers to make room for Savard, in which case we might be able to pick up a top-nine winger for free. DL is familiar with him from SJ, as well.
Colten Teubert, well I must admit this is the first move where I really started to question what kind of team Lombardi was building. You trade arguably your most skilled player, a former 80 point player who was 26 at the time and you use the pick you got for him to draft Colten Teubert? A player whos absolute max out potential is another Bryan Marchment. And leaving all those much more talented players on the board was a joke/ Sorry that pick left me with a really bad taste in my mouth, and it gets worse and worse as each of those guys taken after him continues to shine in the NHL.
dont forget DL also gave up another 1st to make that trade possible
Every time I start thinking about how stocked our system is (especially on D) and how tough allot of us, me included are at times on DL I remember that abomination of a deal and the total mishandling of the one player that we are still looking to replace.
I can deal with the DC mess and even the rest of the early signings but the squid situation still sticks in my craw.
