The Blues have depth on their forward lines when healthy they just need a pure goal scorer, if EJ was traded it would have to be for that. The Parise trade would be interesting but I think the Blues are just going to see what EJ, Pie, and Cole look like after a few years. If Tarasenko is as good as he is being hyped up he may start to fill that role next yr.

A trade like that would benefit both parties IMO.
As a Blues fan, I'd do Parise for EJ in a second.

Package deals for a quantity of lesser talent are a no-go. The Blues desperately need a dynamic player on offense. That type of player is the only return I would consider for EJ.

As a Blues' fan, I'd have to say I'd be inclined to take that deal.

If EJ is traded, it won't be in the Western Conference.

Send him to Boston for a package that includes a first-round pick in this draft, three guys (Wheeler, Caron, Boychuk) who can help immediately at the NHL level, and two more (Colborne and Bartkowski) who have legitimate futures, and would help in Peoria right now.

That makes a lot of sense for the Blues, and doesn't boost the payroll too enormously for the amount of NHL-ready and near-NHL-ready help they get back in exchange.

Plus, it's always nice to have multiple first-round picks, in any draft.

These type of threads just makes me laugh.

First off, if Gretzky can be traded in his prime, or even Joe Thorton, then anyone can be traded.

Second, the return is much less than what some of these proposals suggest.

So EJ is the next coming of Bobby Orr?? He is a high draft pick that seems to be working out, but apparently he is worth last drafts number 1, Eberle who by all accounts is a real good player and is clutch when needed, + next years top 5 pick. Are you seriously kidding me.

Holy over valuation Batman!

Keep him and we will just suck a few more games and pick Larsson next June. Much cheaper.

Would love to see him end up in Dallas. Never gonna happen, though.

EJ is a great dman, but the overvaluation of him in this thread has me in stitches.

The return for a star player is rarely what you'd expect, much less a ... "star" player that's still developing.

What exactly has Erik Johnson done in his career to warrant such an astronomical return?

He has the tools to be a very good defensemen and I'd love to have him on my team but some of the proposals in this thread are ludicrous.

If Parise comes back healthy and strong, i'd do that in a heartbeat as a Blues fan. I love EJ, but we NEED a player like Parise.

I'd do a straight up trade for Heatley or Parise in a heartbeat. Liking Parise's game a bit more tho.

Coburn, and JVR.

Both teams are in a different conference. Coburn's comparable, if not already more established, than Johnson. He doesn't have the ceiling, though, which is why JVR goes into the mix. Kid's got a lot of promise; The Flyers shed a bit of salary along the way.

I'd consider that one, too... but I'd still be looking for a pick.

Really?..... trade the 22 year old top pair Dman before he's actually supposed to be contributing a dominating two way game at 24-25 years old?

Yeah....that's not the route I would go personally(especially with him locked up for two more years at 2.5 average I believe). Armstrong wouldn't be shy of offering his 1st in 2011 as a starter chip, nor would he be reluctant to part with Berglund if the return was a true No.1 center wanting a big deal. Armstrong will pursue a No.1 C at some point, but not at the expense of EJ. He still has FA and salary dumps as options when a new majority owner is in place.

Personally, I think he is. But I'm admittedly desperate for a true top pair defenseman.
