Doubt either team would do this.

As much as I love Jack Johnson and want to see him succeed on the Kings, I'd do it.

No reason for San Jose to do this. And if the Kings wanted Heatley, they could have had him.

How so?

I wouldn't make the deal as JJ is really coming into his own. Not to say that the value doesn't seem right but it would be difficult for us to give up JJ for DH.

I recall DL and Hextall not being too happy with Heatleys trade request and don't think he's THEIR kinda player eventhough he's exactly the type of goal scorer LA needs.

If LA wanted him, they would have traded for him the first time around. I doubt Lombardi, Hextall, or Murray's opinions about him have changed much after a single season.

LA takes this. The value favors LA from a player-player perspective, but SJ has enough offense and needs defense desperately.

LA needs to do a deal like this one. Too much utility, not enough finish.

Hell, you can even have an additional pick and prospect, not named Schenn or Forbort.

We'd need a (lesser) forward coming back as well. As talked about before I'd love to put more in the deal and get Brown as well, but barring that I'd probably take Stoll.

whoa thats way too much for heatley. he still makes quite the pretty penny, and san jose is filling a big need in getting johnson. i'd say johnson + 2nd would do it

Ottawa's best offer for Heatley was Michalek, Cheechoo, and a 2nd. What in your right mind thinks that LA gives up a first pairing Dman, a top flight prospect, 1st, AND a 2nd? SJ would be lucky to get Johnson and a 2nd, and I think even then LA doesn't do it.

Murray was taking the best offer at the time, which was.......Michalek, Cheech, pick.

No other team could afford him and/or was steering clear of the mess made through the media.

Ok. Go crazy with Sturm then, if you think this is overpayment for a constant 35+ goal scorer.

What happens if Jack Johnson reverts to his form from the last years, Toffoli ends up amounting to nothing, and you finish high and we get crappy picks?

What happens if Jack Johnson lives up to his draft position and continues to improve, Toffoli ends up becoming a consistent 25 goal scorer, the Kings choke and you get great picks.

Both have the same amount of chance

Maybe (I don't see any chance of the Kings chocking, and Toffoli already amounts to nothing in the NHL at least, there is absolutely no way to tell he's going to be a 25 goal-scorer, and on a consistent basis).

A young, good all round defender, a good (not excellent) prospect, and a late first and second is not overpayment for one of the premiere wingers in the game.

More important than the value of the proposed trade is the fact that Heatley is not a player that Lombardi is going to target, especially after criticizing his trade demands. Dean builds through the draft and wants the Kings logo tattooed on the butt of every player. No way would Dean trade Johnson for Heatley, even if Kings fans want Heatley here.
