New Flyers Verizon Commercial

Just saw this up on the700level blog. This commercial looks like it will be pretty epic.

My friend works in the media dept for the Flyers and was telling me about it yesterday. He mentioned wizards beards, and I figured it was something either with Christmas or Giroux

Jules and the people that were doing the kick ass avatars during the offseason need to crop the pictures to isolate one player at a time and do the same thing.

Epic.

Also, that isn't make-up on Giroux. They just asked him not to shave that morning.

Imagine if the Flyers never lost.

That was the premise of a Verizon wireless commercial that six players shot today over 4 1/2 hours at the Wells Fargo Center. The commercial promotes the new NHL GameCenter Live mobile app for subscribers.

The players start growing their beards at the beginning of the season and go 82-0, so they never shave.

The players involved were Sergei Bobrovsky, Danny Briere, Braydon Coburn, Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell and Mike Richards.
What I'm most excited about to be honest.

I hope he gets a lot of speaking roles including opening the commercial with a soliloquy so that we can judge how well he is doing in English class.

I'm noticing that Verizon must really like the Flyers. They had that commercial with them and the Caps last year, except of course OV won the game haha. I'd imagine most other companies, etc would use another cross-state team for their commercials.

It can't be worse than Jon Kalinski's voiceover: "Skating. It feels like flying." Nice words, poor delivery.

Jon Kalinksi was about 100x better in his hospital commercial than Richie could ever dream of being in his BMW commercial.

*In a completely monotone voice* 3 words say alot... 2 words say it all.

That **** haunts me at night.

It might purely be marketing as the Flyers have a lot of fans spread out across a wide area.

Otherwise, they are trying to play nice with Comcast after their pretty bitter legal entanglements.

"Sabre!"

EDIT: Really? You can't spell Sabre with an -er? Or lower-cased?

I did what I could with Microsoft Picture Manager here at work. It's ok. Good enough for an avy.

Ha, that's awesome! If Danny lost his razor today, he might have that beard in 10 or 15 years!

I am sure that the NHL isn't smart enough to market those hats but hopefully one of the many Philly related clothing designers put them out.

OT: On a serious note 82-0 is both so unbelievable and fantastic... and will in all probability never happen (even with a gazillion monkeys at a gazillion typewriters, or on skates, for a bazillion years)... That said, to me it only highlights the feat of the 1979-80 Flyers team that went 25-0-10 over the course of the better part of half a season. 25-2-10 over the initial 37 games of the season.

With the ties being eliminated going 35 games without a loss... or even a 'Regulation' loss... would be monumental... in any sport. That is my candidate for a sports record that will never be eclipsed.
