I think he resigns too but my guess is he needed the surgery regardless because I doubt anyone would resign him without it

Bruins fan here. Sorry to hear about Markov, such a great player and that's a big blow once again to your blueline. Be interesting to see what Gauthier does.

Wrong board. Philly's board is a little more below . May I remind you this is the Habs we're talking about, nothing will happen to Eric Staal (nor any Canes) next time the two teams meet.

Exactly what Marinaro reported. Really sad to see such a great player get derailed by injuries. Hopefully we resign him at a bargain and he comes back to form.

Why ?

It's not Staal's fault if Markov has a bad knee....

Unless they bring up Ian Schultz just for that one game and...

Does not work like that. Markov has to be in good health and ready to play before insurance covers his contract.

Even though we expected it... one word : **** !

I hope he'll remain a hab next season, because nobody on the open market can replace him...

At least we got cap room to find a replacement...

Bon. With the money freed up, maybe we won't need to wait until the trade deadline to acquire a winger. The sooner the better.

Too slow for Martin.

But who's available out there... and at what price (in terms of player to trade) ?

I'm not surprised but it still really sucks. More than anything, I actually feel really bad for Markov. He was so anxious to come back and when he did, you could see how happy he was to be playing... And now he's out once again, but this time for a whole year. Poor guy.

My thoughts exactly. That's quite a streak of bad luck for Marky. Hope he takes all his time to come back good as new.

I am more worried about his morale than his knee.

Anyone know why he hasn't been placed on LTIR yet? I mean, it's safe to say that the team has known he's done for the year before today. What advantage is gained by not placing hoim on LTIR?

Just saw the news on TSN. Damn. I was hoping for better than that. Let's hope Weber and Subban can keep our D going offensively.

The only good news out of this is the open cap space we will have when he goes on LTIR.

This is just ****ed up!

Just when the guy was entering his prime and became one of the more dominant D in this league these injuries side-tracked him this much.

It's awful that Markov is gone for the full season, and I hope that he heals well.

However, the one silver lining to this very dark cloud is that it frees up some cap space that should enable us to make improvements to the team.

On the whole, I feel that our D corps has actually sustained the lost of Markov fairly well.

So, I'd invest the cap space savings in a Top Six winger.

Personally, I think Penner would be the perfect guy for us to go after. Jason Arnott is another good option if Jersey continues to struggle.

Both Edmonton and Jersey would likely be satisfied with picks/prospects in return.

Well, on the positive side... his market value went noticeably down with this announcement. Should help us resign Markov at a good price.

Oh. And we probably need to go shopping with all the cap room his injury gave the Habs.

Hopefully, this time around, it really heals perfectly.
