This is true. Hockey is what he knows, lives and breathes. And for the last year and a half it's been more down than up.

Health first though. Get well Andrei Markov and take care of yourself.

I think we now have about $6.8 million, which is a lot!

We could get another veteran D-man in the $3m - $3.5m range, and a $4 m 2nd line winger for that.

It gives us lots of trading options.

I think he needs to be out 10 games before they can do that? I don't know where I read or heard that, but I seem to recall that I did. Markov so far has missed 9 games, so I expect after the Sharks game Saturday they'll put him on LTIR.

We have our picks and we have some mid-tier prospects to give out. Salary cap's not an issue anymore and it seems that there are quite a few sellers (in the east mostly) with struggling offensive wingers on their squad.

Cole and Pitkanen would be nice... I wonder what Carolina would want... Weber, Maxwell, picks ?

Screw it, I say take the risk and sign him long term discounted. If we can sign him at 5mil for 4-5 yrs and he doesn't have another season ending injury, big steal.

PG wont panic and none of us should either. Yes this team is worse without Markov but lets all relax and give Weber and Subban time to see if they can get the job done...

Naw, they mean the rest of this regular season, with the possibility of him returning in the 3rd or 4th round of the playoffs if we're still playing by then.

Then again, who really knows?

I'm worried about his long-term health. I wonder what we do with the cap space this year, and also what we do about resigning Markov. Hindsight will show what the right decisions were, but in the moment PG's got to at best make some educated gambles.

Will the insurance compagnies be willing to assure a long term contract ?

Anyway, I still think we have the inside track on him and he should still be the priority... but I hate the question marks concerning his knee... I mean who were the ****ing incompetant doctors who operated him last time...

I say we trade our 2011 and 2012 1st round choices to LA for Doughty

If not we can send Toronto a 7th rounder for Komisarek

We knew it was coming, but it still sucks. I guess the silver lining in all of this is that the team has learned to win without him. I expect a deal in February.

PG won't panic, but he could easly bolster the top 6 forward area,

this could work out well of hab land, they have the cash now to spend.

This sucks, I have a feeling that he might sign for one year at a lower salary to then go for something longer term and prove he is not fragile.

Finally, someone with some sense

in a sad, twisted way, this is the best thing that ever happened to us cap wise

now we get markov for 4 years and LESS then 6 million per, je suis content

****.
Well, denial is one hell of a drug I guess.

While it creates a lot of cap space we now need a top 6 winger and a top 4 defenceman. Seems we need to give up a lot of pieces to cover those needs...

Markov will never be the same anymore, he's missed 2 seasons and a bad knee injury.

I love him, but he will never be what he used to be.

I would take a 7M$ healthy Markov over a 4.5/5M$ injured Markov anyday. The best thing that could ever happen to us cap wise is Gomez on IR.

At least it give us the chance to be one of the rare teams that right now can take profit on team that need cap space. 1) we have big cap space and 2) we will be willing to pay for salary unlike a lot of team that are under the cap right now.

With his string of injuries it's gonna be hard to know what player you will get even with a full recovery physically. How will his game change knowing that a hit could put him on the shelf again. I swear it's almost how the Staal hit looked. Markov seemingly tried to prepare himself too much almost initiating the contact and catching Staal by surprise.

wow.. we all wanted Markov to spend all his career with the habs. But now, things may have changed. We want him back but he's not become a huge risk.

Maybe a two years deal at around 4 millions per year? No idea.
