ďThe way we try to approach it is, you end up scoring a goal on a rebound, itís a pretty good play. Scoring a goal on a rebound, thatís probably your best pass. Especially defensemen, when weíre trying to get them involved, as I just answered, trying to get them involved in rotations, going to the net, being underneath the hashmarks sometimes, I donít think Itís the best idea to try to pick a corner and try to score a goal. If youíre going to miss, you need to miss on the net - especially for a defenseman. Because itís a breakout pass if itís shot wide and youíre caught in. Weíve done that - itís something we work on every day. Weíve done that a little bit here, where I think our best chances in the past few games have been shot wide. And not only our D, but some of our forwards. Itís just a concentration of thinking I have to at least hit the net, not just try to pick corners where it could go wide, and maybe bang in some rebounds. Then you also create momentum, by keeping the puck in and staying on the forecheck.Ē
Was this an interview or a recorded personal discussion with del zotto?
I think Torts simply dumped down entire load of his coaching talks (including with MDZ) as well as, perhaps, some inner conversations with front office.
The talk, if any, made MDZ hesitant with shooting based on first period.
i liked what torts had to say about christensen. i may be in the minority, but even after his "cheap shot" comments, i still like the guy. good hands, great shot. its all about confidence, which he is lacking.
