Do not want.. let him rest as much as possible! Unless we're gonna pull a Bouillon, let him play the POs, re-injure himself and not sign him... Do not want either.

walk away Gautheir ...take the cap space and move on

folks we have won without him ....all we need is Campoli at 2- 2.5 and take another cap casualty from another team for example Bieksa from Vancouver who have most of their d UFA

resign Gill for 1-2 years and we are ok

the year after Spacek is up and Tinordi steps in

He is out for a year.....no chance he will be back for the playoffs. The decision was made so that he does not have to try and rush back and risk another injury.

This is obviously a major blow and it will be interesting to see what we do with him in the off-season. I am sure Markov would love to stay in Montreal but I doubt our offer will be anything above 2 years. I can't see him getting offered anything more from any other team either so I think he will remain a Hab. He just won't be locked up for the rest of his career as we previously thought.

What have we won without him? All I know is we were eliminated by the Flyers because we could not score a goal when it mattered. Seems like that is something Markov would help.

I think you have things twisted, Gill and Spacek are the easily replaceable players, not Markov.

Best of luck to Andrei in his recovery and I really hope Gauthier offers him an extention... Hopefully for a smaller cap hit than his current contract.

Either way, I hope to see him back in a Habs uniform.

Hopefully? I think you meant obviously there. Markov will have produced only 37 points in his last two seasons (because of these injury, but still).

No way I'd offer him more than 2-2.5M$ than a year. Except if it's a one-year contract, then I might go in the 3.5M$ range.

Your low balling.

No way we re-sign him at that... Someone is going to be willing to take a chance on him for a lot more than that. You can book mark this, I'd bet my life on it.

He'd get 4.5M on the open market MINIMUM.

He probably would but that's one big risk a team is willing to take.

It's high-risk high-reward though...

If he can even return to 80% of his peak-production and play the majority of the games it wll be a huge payoff for whoever picks him up. He could be the difference maker for certain teams making the playoffs, as he was so often for us.

I fully agree with you that it's a risk, I just think there would be plenty of takers.

I'd offer him a one year deal at 4.5M and see where it goes from there.

Terrible news, however this is something that I have been anticipating since seeing the injury weeks ago. The team has been playing without thinking about Markov for weeks, and now they just have to move on.

I hope we aggressively pursue someone to replace him. Tomas Kaberle would be an ideal replacement. He has flaws in his game, but he moves the puck, and can be reliable. Leafs and Canadiens don't make trades routinely, but in this case we need to persist and try to get him. This is a good team that we have in Montreal, and we should attempt to do everything we can to win now.

It's certainly an investment we can afford to make with Gill, Picard, Spacek and Hamrlik getting off the books this summer. But we can be sure at least one of them, if not, will remains with the team.

I see Weber having a full-time job in the NHL next year, leaving us with Weber, Subban, Gorges and 4 spots to fill to complete our defensive brigade.

For those of you wanting to make a splash. We're going to have to give up some players that you may like...

Guys in play:

Avtsin
Leblanc
Tinordi
Weber
Patches
Palusaj
Kristo
Maxwell
Dashernais

I'm probably missing some but you get the picture. Getting a good top 6 winger will not come cheap.

I wouldnt be against dealing Avtsin, Palushaj, Kristo, Maxwell or Desharnais if it means good player coming our way. If we take a look at the standing, we are in the top five of the league.

Remember how everyone hated the Dominic Moore deal at first?

I say leave our prospects alone, I think we can pick up rental players at the deadline for picks

Everybody is going to do the samething and drive up the cost to get these rental players. We should get one now when the cost is still low and we do have cap space.

The Leafs must be desperate for a first rounder. But Burke is stubborn and he won't give up Kaberle cheaply.

If Kaberle leaves Toronto right now, Boston would get first overall pick.

Like most people, I kind of expected this.. I can imagine that PG already has a plan B. I sure hope is plan can put a small smile on my face to replace the frown Markov's news gave me...

Depends on their contract of course. Kovalchuk could be had for nothing. Scott Gomez too.

wtf have we won with him? cups? how many finals have we been in since 93 ?

my point is clear ...we have survived without him and will do so

others will pick up the slack ...no worries on my end

Atlanta is better without ilya and I am not saying we cant use Markov but we are fools to think he can come back at 100% pre injury

this is our chance to walk away ...and get 2 other D guys for 1 Markov $$$

the key is in free agency stay away the first few days and wait

we got Halpern on the cheap and he is better than 90% of the overpaid stiffs who

got stupid money like Colby Armstrong at 3 mil for his 10 goals a year

Gauthier will not resign him IMHO ....

You're living in dream land...Habs are going to re-sign Markov because they're a class organization. Markov will get surgery and work as hard as usual to get back in time for next season.

trust me, if Andrei Markov is a free agent on July 1st, some team is going to more than willing to roll the dice that he's recovered.

this fanbase is a joke

all we need is Campoli? wow, you're way more delusional than I thought...

I'd take Andrei Markov on one knee, at a MAX contract over Chris Campoli

This. Campoli is a terrible defenseman.
