The only thing that's clear is that some of you don't understand the meaning of 'blindside'. Blindside means coming at the player from the side or from behind.

Watch the video and pause it at the 2 second mark. Callahan is at least 5 feet in front of Nielsen, with Nielsen moving directly toward him. Callahan turned his body to put his shoulder into him and caught his head because Nielsen was reaching for the puck.

It's not a dirty hit, his elbow was down. Cally didn't even hit him near as hard as he could have. He won't be suspended because it doesn't qualify under the head shots rule.

Go to 19 seconds and pause.

Both players are square to the puck, sticks and elbows down. Nielsen lets up, reaching for the puck, in doing so he's almost bending halfway down his normal height. The difference is that Cally is bracing for the hit, Nielsen thinks its shinny and puts himself in a prone position. Its a hockey play, happens all the time, except most players in Nielsen's spot realize they are in the offensive zone and should be more careful.

Again, no suspension, book it.

It looks to me like Callahan is going for the puck and lifts his arm to defend himself because Nielsen is coming straight at him even if he's not looking that way.

Loffen, they shouldn't have closed the appreciation thread for you. Thank you for already putting up what I came to request!

There ya have it...no intent(well he did show intent to not kill him), no suspension.

Remember we are dealing with Colin Campbell. Logic and analysis of the situation are irrelevant.

Yeah, that Callahan hit was definitely worse then Bolls.

I know Callahan didn't mean to elbow him in the head, but it was a clear elbow to the headshot.

Some of you guys seriously wear your homer goggles. If you saw a different team or player do it, we'd all probably be saying it's a headshot.

Is it really suspension worthy? I don't think so, but this is the 2010 NHL.

The fact NYR have not heard about disciplinary hearing for Callahan and they play at 5 p.m. tomorrow suggests supp discipline is not likely
I didn't think it was suspension worthy to begin with.

It wasn't an elbow regardless. If anything it was upper arm/shoulder. That doesn't mean it can't be acted on but it really wasn't an elbow

There will be no supplementary discipline for Callahan on last night's 1st period elbow to Frans Nielsen's head

Callahan's hit is definitely a clean N/S hit IMO. He's coming in at Neilsen's 10 o'clock. Keep your head up son. If you just look at the still image, yeah, it looks like Cally is coming from the side but in the video, it ends up like that because Cally turns his shoulder into the hit. Shoulder does hit the head first (Neilsen is bending over reaching for the puck) and as Callahan is elevating his body as you do in hits, head on the shoulder rides up and finds the elbow. I kinda feel like for it to be an intentional elbow, you're elbow has to be up at shoulder height. When you keep them down, it's pretty damn clean to me. No suspension or fine. But then again, that Boll hit was a joke. Or the replays don't show whatever the refs saw on that hit.

Is it wrong to say that the Isles player pretty much skated his face onto Cally's arm? Because thats what it looked like to me.

Cally's arm movement afterwards looked like he was trying to keep balance, but I suppose its the isles so maybe i'm being a homer.

Don't think you're being a homer...I thought the same thing.

Boll had another hit in that game that was borderline, I'm thinking the fine was a cumulative thing even if the press release doesn't state that.

I need a pic back a frame or two or three that shows the elbow up and whether or not it's htting the face. U can see the elbow come up without a doubt but these pics are well after the elbow comes up. Can't make a call either way. For some reason tho it really looked like an elbow last night and now it doesn't

u wanna cut down on concussions in the game? teach players at the youth level not to skate in open ice with their heads down.
