Could JJ be the key to bringing MALKIN to LA?

With the continuing rise of Voinov, Muzzin, and recent NHLer
Martinez, I believe Jack Johnson becomes expendable.

I like Jack, but there is too much doubt about our signing him
as an RFA next spring/summer.

It is well-known that Sidney Crosby is JJ's buddy, and has wet dreams about JJ joining him in Pitt.

Also, Pitt needs to dump some salary and get some cheaper players
who can still play.

I'm thinking:

JJ/Hickey/Schenn and Drewiske or a pick for Malkin.
(I also consider Hickey, though talented, as expendable).

But JJ is the key.

I sincerely hope DL attempts to shop JJ to Pitt, and maybe even pull off a deal like the one I just described.

It's worth a try, I reckon!

Why would the penguins ever get rid of Malkin? (If they have said they want to then I apologize but Im aware of no such rumor). You have two number one centers which are imo the most scarce commodity in the nhl and possibly the most important. I just cant see them dealing him for any price that any team would be willing to pay. I dont even know that Id do it for a war chest of players and prospects. I mean the oilers had gretzky and messier and won 4 championships. Then they traded gretzky and only got one more. I dont see the trade happening.

A deal like that has been talked about by rumor mongers for years.

Malkin...floating?

Have you checked who are his linemates? Talbot and Cooke?
Both of them would be 4th liners in LA. Last year he played with the likes of Fedotenko and another scrub. Make no mistake folks, Malkin is in the same class of Crosby and Ovechkin.

As long as Quick & Doughty aren't involved in the trade, I'd pull the trigger on a trade for Geno. This guy is just dynamite.

Exactly. Scary thing is Pittsburgh is rolling along without Malkin's production. That damn Crosby kid can do it all by himself most nights. Fortunately for them, Fluery finally got his head out of his ass.

Would I still trade for Malky? Hell yeah. Even Jordan Staal would be nice.

Jack Johnson isn't expendable, but I would trade him for Malkin; however, he isn't available or remotely close to being so, therefore there is no point in the discussion.

Using JJ and Hickey in a package to get Malkin is pretty moot anyways. The Pens have their top 4 locked up the next 4-5 years with Martin, Michalek, Letang, and Orpik. Goligoski is locked up another season after this one. The Pens also have another defenseman as their top prospect Simon Despres who only did not make the team this year out of camp because they didn't feel he would get enough time playing as a #6.

If the Pens move Malkin it will be for forward depth instead of defensive depth.

As I said, if Pittsburgh would be willing to trade Malkin, everyone but Quick and Doughty should be considered tradable.

Prospects don't make Johnson expendable. Johnson makes prospects expendable.
