Some good options come Trade Deadline?

If the Habs go to make a decent playoff push again this season. We don't need to go over needs really, we are just in need of a top 6 winger and top 4 dman.

Halpern is brought in(fills what Moore and Metro did for us last season, but Halpern so far has brought alot more to the table), the bottom 6 is a lock in my opinion.

Options at F: (all on expiring contracts)

Langenbrunner - NJ
Brunette - MIN
Moulson - NYI
Gagne - TB

Boyes - STL(not on an expiring contract) - but could be good for our top 6.

Options at D: (all on expiring contracts)

Rivet - BUF
Wisniewski - NYI
Jurcina - NYI
Bieksa - VAN
Kaberle - TOR
Brewer - STL
Huskins - SJ
McCabe - FLA
Pitkanen - CAR

Does anyone interest you alot more than the others in the list? Is there any other players to mention who you think could be a canidate for a TD day pick up?

Brunette in a heartbeat.

McGuire just brought up Kovalev, and at first i laughed, but then i thought: well why not? He'd instantly make our PP and 2nd line better, and he clearly doesn't like playing in Ottawa. He's in the last year of his contract as well, and for a playoff run it might not be a bad idea. I'd usually be against it because he takes too many games off, but he does rise to the occasion in a Montreal uniform and he wouldn't necessarily be the go-to guy like he was before. I'm not really sold on the idea but it's definitely interesting.

I really doubt Gagne will be available. TB is a playoff-bound team.

Brunette is a LW isn't he? He's pretty slow but could help our PP.

Kovalev being an RW, I don't think we'll go for him.

Realistically, acquiring Kovalev is plan z, although I do think over all he would contribute more than cause detriment to our team but I believe with the cap space we have, we should aim for plan A...an impact player, more in the mould of Martin style, structure and system, I would not be surprised if a trade comes from the western conference...

NJ

Yeah the sooner NJ realize their season is over...we can capitalize on their dire cap situation...Arnott and or Lagdenbrunner would be good fit for our team so a mtl nj trade seems like a good fit for both teams depending on the terms...

There are probably better deals out there now than there will be at the deadline. Teams like vancouver, Boston and New Jersey are over the cap and need to dump salary and there are very few takers, teams taht have cap room and the budget to spend it.

At the deadline I think there will be more buyers willing to take salary, small markets in contention willing to pay 1/3 of a big salary instead of all of it.

If we're looking at a payoff run then you'd want players who have been there and performed before. Langenbrunner, Arnott come to mind. On defense I like Wisnoskis ability to shoot but with PK and Weber who can both fire the puck, I'd go more for Kaberle who can set up the PP which is our pressing concern with Markiv out.

Short pick. Arnott/Lamgembrunner and Kaberle would be my first pick from that list.

Personally I think we might be able to get a Clutterbuck, Burns or Barker from Minny for the right price which may also be good options if available.

I wouldn't mind adding Wisniewski and would consider taking a look at Phillips should he be available at the deadline. I'm not sure we're willing to pay for what a team like Florida or Toronto would be asking for, particularly because at this point in time we don't really have any needs, only areas we could upgrade, and our depth is what is winning us games (on top of Price obviously).

Langenbrunner-Gomez-Gionta would be a great 2nd line. All ex Devils too.

i feel acquiring Kaberle and Moulson would be two moves that put this team over the top. However, are you guys willing to part with guys like pacioretty + because we know both of these players will require a high return.

I think the Predators are going to try to move Dumont at some point. His stats are underwhelming right now, but the guy is talented and I think a change of scenery would help him.

I would go after Joffrey Lupul. The guy has size, strength and good scoring instincts. He is also a LW or a RW. He makes 4.25 million and that decent. He was also drafted under Gauthier I believe.

Moulson is a player I've also thought could be a good fit, and someone who may not cost too much to get. A package with Wisniewski might be an option to look at.

Kaberle would be great, but I wouldn't offer Pacioretty. I'd only include Max in a deal that saw a bona fide power forward with at least another year of contract remaining to even consider it. I'd consider moving him for Penner, maybe.
