Habs Priority Remains a Top 6 Forward: Kaberle was a Suggestion

EDIT

I had just reported the story from another poster. It turns out that Kypreos said Montreal's priority was a top 6 forward. He suggested that we should take a look at Kaberle.

Below is my original post

Took it from the trade boards.

I consider this a legitimate rumor given than Kypreos is usually spot on when it comes to the Habs

Reported Cammalleri signing first
Announced a day prior to Plekanec being signed that we should expect it.
Also called the Schneider deal.

Discuss.

Personally, I feel as though if this were to be true, that Pacioretty would probably be the main piece to the deal, which I really don't want to happen.

Knowing that Montreal is on the market for a top-6 offense isn't exactly the biggest secret in town.

And do we need to buy in an additional D when we are right in the middle of a drama because we happen to have too many D who do the job?

Can't say I'm surprised. Kaberle is the 2nd Markov. Exactly the same style, same strengths, Markov is/was just a little notch higher.
He would be the perfect replacement for Markov.

I'd give up draft picks and a low end prospect. Anything more and I'd wait until the end of the season. I don't want to give Toronto any good thing.

I think Kaberle is a little overrated here. He is really **** defensively. He does have some sick puckmoving skills and veteran hockey sense.

Defense is not our problem now, so why fix it?

From what I heard, Burke wants a first round pick.. Not a prospect. Or a short prospect. Or a Euro prospect lol

Kaberle is playing in Toronto, every single Dman would look bad over there.

Defense isn't our problem, the fact we're one of the best defensive teams without Markov is really a testament as to how well Martin has coached us. You have to wonder, just how much better would we look with someone as talented as Markov.

Would just be a great bonus for us. But I agree, we should look to improve our top 6. We can't keep playing pluggers on the 2nd line.

As long as they don't give up MaxPac, it would be a welcome addition.

I think you would have to overpay to get Burke to trade with Montreal at this point, which bothers me.

I would easily give our first for Kaberle, with a conditional 2nd next year if he signs with us.

I would sign him next summer, with or without Markov. Not to replace Andrei, but to replace Hamrlik (I know they aren't the same type of players).

I just hope we don't give up Pacioretty in a trade. I'd rather we call him up soon actually

Cammalleri Plekanec Kostitsyn
Pacioretty Gomez Gionta
Pouliot Eller Darche
Pyatt Halpern Moen

Kaberle Subban/Spacek
Hamrlik Spacek/Subban
Gill Gorges

Looks like a really solid lineup to me....on paper.

Good question! Allow me to answer!!!

Hamrlik - age: 36
Spacek - age :36
Gill - age: 35 or 36

all of them playing + 20 minutes per game... and Hamrlik and Spacek especially have shown signs of fatigue in the past during the season / PO.

What if 1 of the younger D gets injured? Even more responsibility for the old farts...

Older players are also more prone to injury.....

Than we have Subban, Gorges = solid

Picard .... MEH

Weber - great on the PP ... can he play solid 5 on 5 , for extended period of time? How will he play come PO time? Big question mark.

Do we want to truly contend this year?

Than we need to replace Markov.... Kaberle = as close of a replacement to Markov as we can get right now.

To MTL : Kaberle + ?

To TOR : 2011 1st round pick (around 20th-25th) + 'B' level prospect + conditionnal pick if Kaberle re-signs next summer ( a 3rd ?)

Fair?

Turn those 2 picks into a 1st and its probably do-able from Toronto's perspective.

Burke wants a 1st round pick.

I think Kaberle would resign IF EVER he get traded to MTL considering he was asking Pleks to go over...Since Toronto dosn't have a 1st rounder, i'd be ready to give a conditional pick + Maxwell & Another prospect. If Kaberle resigns habs give up a first and if he dosn't resign habs only give up a second (would this be possible?)
