Ugh

Don't give the Leafs a thing...

Wait until he's UFA.

burke wants a first rounder.
i dont think anyone in the league will give up a 1st for a kaberle rental. sign and trade? then maybe.

last trade deadline, only the kovalchuk trade had a 1st rounder included: http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=60529

He would definitely stabilize that blueline with nice decision making and crisp passes. Not as good as Markov, but good in his own right. Maybe a change of scenery will do him good.

If somebody like Leopold or Grebeshkov could be worth a 2nd, Kaberle is worth a 1st. But not more.
At best, the team will have him for something like 30 games...

Definitely. Kaberle is a solid top 4 d-man, but what puts past most top 4 d-men is his outlet pass which is of elite level and his offensive game.

With the absence of Markov, Kaberle is exactly what we need both for the PP and for puck movement on the back end which we have little of at the current moment.

Kaberle isn't the best defensively, but he is definitely better than Spacek in that regard(not a knock on Spacek, I think the hate he gets on this board is over the top). Moreover, his offensive game surpasses any D-men on our team.

Our biggest problem this year has been without a doubt a lack of offense from the back end. Kaberle addresses that problem.

Also, taking in Kaberle would leave us enough cap room to maybe make one more deal at the deadline if we really had to(I think).

Why would my team trade Kaberle when we're obviously making the playoffs?

KK but seriously, Kaberle is my favourite Leaf player, and I won't lie, I wouldn't be sad to see him in a Habs uniform..I might even be happy. Cause seriously, our team friggin stinks. Even crosby might not be able to put up a ppg pace on our team. I think Kaberle playing for Habs, especially if it's next season with a healthy Markov as his partner...watch out. I would predict Markov with 65 points and Kaberle with 50.

I can see it, If they get him our defense will look like

Subban-Kaberle
Gorges-Gill
Hammer-spac
Webber/Picard

My proposal would be Danny Kristo+ a First rounder.

Guys...I'm telling you...Marek Zidlicky.

Minny is going nowhere. Zidlicky is signed for cheap for a few more years and he's awesome.

I like this option as well. Zidlicky is one of my favorite non-habs. His offensive game isn't as great as Kaberle's, but his defensive game imo is superior.

The only problem though is that Kaberle addresses the issue of offensive from the backend much more than Zidlicky does. Kaberle is a true PPQB, Zidlicky, while good in that position as well, is not on the same level as Kaberle.

a man can dream I guess.

Greg Zanon and Chuck Kobasew are the only players who are most likely going to be traded.

PS: Greg Zanon is awesome on PK's.

MaxPac is the winger that could develop into what Habs have aleays missed for years, a Leclair type of player. I'd be very very pissed if he gets traded.

If PG did approach Burke inquiring about Kaberle or vice versa and the first word out of Burke's mouth was Lars, I'd hope PG would hang up before he could finish it and say Eller...

If we could get Kaberle and Langenbrunner I'd be very happy.

Cammalleri - Pleks - Langenbrunner
Kostitsyn - Gomez - Gionta
Pouliot - Eller - Darche
Moen - Halpern - Pyatt/Laps

Hamr - Spacek
Kaberle - Subban
Gill - Gorges
Picard

Pacioretty better not be traded and should stay in Hamilton all year no matter how good he is playing.

Could Brunette being available if Minnesota keep fighting for a 10th spot in their conference ?

He and Langenbrunner are the best fit for our winger issue i think...

Yeah Kypreos is pretty reliable and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't giddy with excitement hearing this rumour. I've wanted Kaberle in the Habs for 3 years now and if we somehow landed him, I'd probably shriek like a schoolgirl.

Can you imagine the possibilities?

Markov-Kaberle-Subban launching our speedy forwards like a sling shot shift after shift? That kind of deadly cobra-strike offense would put us over imo.

And from what I hear about how Kaberle loves the NE, would like to stay in Toronto (or near??), the Pleka connection, it becomes less and less farfetch.

I'd do something along the lines of Weber and 1st.

He is slow, maybe, but he's a proven and consistent 20-25 goal scorer, he's not small, and he's UFA in June.
There is not that many options and especially better ones on the market.

We're talking about a #1 D-Man here.

He is one of the 10 players in TOP30 for scoring among defensemen during the each of the last 3 seasons.
A guy able to put 40-45 points while playing at least 2:30/game of SH time is not that common.
But he is not likely to be available, and the deal with Minnesota will be then very costly.

Its just a really hard decision... part of me thinks we'd have a GREAT chance signing him as a UFA, ..but then part of me wants him on the team sooner then that, and then the other problem is, burke 100% wants a 1st round pick and what he has going for him is if montreal does, itll be a "30-20th overall" first round pick and not the untouchable top 10 overall first round, so its for sure hed DEFINATELy want that and a prospect

Given the Leaf's drafting position, we could probably get away with just a 1st. I'd be willing to give a 1st + Maxwell just to make sure they bite.

Leafs-Habs trade? I'm always skeptical of that.

There was a rumor last week that all Minnesota scouts were called to Minny for a meeting, and it is suspected it is in regards to getting to unload players.

Would be an option.

In regards to the Kaberle rumor. I would trade a 1st only if the Habs can sign him, if not I send a 2nd, a roster player like Boyd who isn't playing here and a top 5-10 D prospect like Weber or Carle, or even David Desharnais as he would be in the Leafs line up now.

The Habs need a top 6 forward, and if they have one in development in Hamilton in Patches they aren't trading it for a rental.

If PG were going after a defenseman rental, I would really hope that he would kick the tires on Pitkanen before going after anyone else that's available (Kaberle included).
