wouldn't mind Kaberle, but don't want to give up a blue chip prospect on a rental.

I'd give up a 2nd rounder plus maybe Desharnais,

Moulson, If he'd resign would be worth MaxPac plus a draft choice.

Bieksa could be had for Spacek, and I'd be willing to do that to add the grit and get rid of Spacek for next year.

I think the best fits for this team are Langenbrunner,Arnott, and Elias if all available. If Elias has a NTC I doubt he waves it considering he has a new born child and a move may cause some distress right now.

A guy like Langenbrunner would fit due to his speed and ability to play 2 way hockey. He's a Martin type of player. Arnott would fit because he has size, something we could use in our top 6.

If we could get either of them, I'd be happy as long as we don't overpay.

On D I think McCabe could help our PP. He isn't as bad defensively as he was made to look in Toronto. And even though unmentioned, maybe Jovocop could be an option. Depends how Phoenix is doing at the deadline.

A march to try and get Gauthier to re-sign him next summer?

I can't wait!

In order

Langenbrunner
Pitkanen
Kaberle

What I hope for...Colorado to be out of a playoff spot and we push for Hejduk. Doubt it happens.

I think Pitkanen is extremely underrated around the league, very, very good hockey player.

I'd choose McCabe (who has a canon shot for our PP and who is physical but makes mistake so he is a 5th Dman but who cares since we have guys that can move the puck already) and Langenbrunner (good 2 way Devil guy).

forget the trade deadline. I posted this elsewhere:

Calgary is now the worst team in the west behind Edmonton...

If they decided to shake something up I expect PG to call and ask about Olli Jokinen. Why you ask?

First off, he has been a big disappointment since his arraival there...

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?id=1056

Second, in his best two seasons in the NHL 91 and 89 points, his coach was Martin and Olli didn't even have much players to play with...

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/l...002342007.html
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/l...002342006.html

And last, at $3M a season, the Habs could afford him and have their 6-3, 215lbs center... At 32, he's still not over the hill.

http://www.nhlnumbers.com/teams/CGY?year=2011

If I'm calgary, I'll consider it for pretty much anything for the future.

I preffer Iginla by miles, but If anything, Calgary will trade Olli first...

Edit: A possible trade could send players like Boyd (again) and/or Desharnais and a pick their way and I don't see why they would not be happy. They drop their dead wood $3M center for 2 cheap centers which will save them Salaray and cap space. Desharnais has the potential to do better in the west and will never get a chance behind Eller. Plus they get a pick to try and get whatever they need for their future. Just something off the top of my head.

Another bonus is that the deal is between a Western and Eastern Concerence and they only face each other 2 times this season.

with the cap space we will have at the trade deadline, we can get anybody in the league. Heck we can get 2 of anybody.

I say we go and get Iginla. we have prospects draft picks and depth in the minors. And the all important cap space.

Go Get Iginla

Completely agree, he tops my list. Penner would be second, even though he's not a UFA...

We agree that Iginla would look sweet playing along side Cammy.

but I think it would be close to public relation suicide if they treaded him now. First they trade Phaneuf which was not a popular choice for the fans there. Now you think the Fans will want to see their captain 50 goal scorer get traded away? He's their best player and the heart and soul of the team.. As my fiend said to me today, "I'll be really impressed with Gautier if he can get Iginla out of Calgary."

Besides what do you trade for your heart and soul captain and best player??? Not pick or prospects IMO.

Man I would love Pitkanen. Man I know I posted in the Kaberle thread that I would like to see him in a habs uniform, but Pitkanen addresses so many needs at once on the back end.

His outlet pass and offensive game is slightly below Kaberle's, but his all around defensive game is far superior. Pitkanen would no doubt bring our team to another level. He makes our backend that much more dynamic.

I like him too, but i honestly think he will stay at Carolina.
Shy guy, needs time to adjust himself, and with two finnish teammates and friends as Ruutu and Jokinen, i dont see him moving.
And Carolina needs him, their D is not really solid behind him.

Well, he is UFA next year and Carolina will struggle making the playoffs. I think if the right offer came their way, they would take a look.

IMO, Pitkanen would cost more than Kaberle, which could be a drawback.

Realistic trade deadline acquisitions (UFA's)

Langenbrunner, Jamie
Arnott, Jason
Moulson, Matt
Weight, Doug
Stillman, Cory
Dvorak, Radek
Higgins, Chris
Reasoner, Marty
Hordichuk, Darcy
Connolly, Tim
Niedermayer, Rob
Grier, Mike
Cole, Erik
Jokinen, Jussi
Larose, Chad
Kovalev, Alexei
Ruutu, Jarkko

Tanguay, Alex
Glencross, Curtis
Morrison, Brendan
Kobasew, Chuck
Brunette, Andrew
Miettinen, Antti
Madden, John
Selanne, Teemu
Marchant, Todd
Voros, Aaron
Hejduk, Milan
Fleischmann, Tomas
Sullivan, Steve
Ward, Joel
Janssen, Cam
Winchester, Brad

If the standings stay the same as now. They'll likely change slightly.

Out of all those players, the only real quality players are Selanne (never coming), Langenbrunner, Andrew Brunette, Hejduk and Steve Sullivan.

Hejduk and Sullivan could also make the playoffs or likely will be close enough that their teams are not sellers.

Not really much options in the rental market this year. Looks like if we are going to fill a top 6 hole, its going to have to be with a player under contract.

I see said the blind man. Looks like he could be gotten for spare parts. I think I'd make that kind of move sooner than later. However I'd actually talk to Cammy about it first and get his input.
