I call out all of the arm chair GM's to post their thoughts about lineups
missing players or players who have to be traded.
Remember last year, this is not a personal bashing thread. You are the most powerfull man in the organisation and nobody can criticize you.
Keep it civil.
My turn..................
Fire Kompon and Murray. Get anyone in who is under 83 and is familar with the new
NHL system and rules. I would give the order that board playing and shooting the puck into a crowd is not accepted.
For the LW problem is no solution. We passed on 4 excelent gifts and when you do it you run out of options. So i would stay within the organisation right now.
Player on my list out
-Handzus (lost a step and age shows up)
-Westgarth and similar players (a team who wants to contend needs a 4th line)
-Smyth (makes his line predictable but would wait for replacement. After that i would send him to Manchester)
- Pony (he isn't what we need)
Player i target:
now:
-Chimera (i want speed and leadership for the 4th line)
-Penner (badly needed LW scorer)
next year:
- Parise (would give up a lot for his rights)
-Semin (well it's too late. We missed to trade for him at the beginning of the season. To convince the Caps brass to trade his rights would be costly now)
-Torres UFA signing for the 3rd line
-Moulson (deadline move depends on Penner signing)
-Jason Blake (4th line speed)
My lineup:
Penner - Kopitar - Williams
Smyth - Richardson - Brown
Parse - Stoll - Simmonds
Clifford - Lewis - Chimera
Doughty - Greene
Johnson - Scuderi
Mitchell - A-Mart
I would send Westgarth, Drewiske, and Zeiler down. I would trade Jack Johnson for Ryan Malone. I would trade a 2nd for Jiri Hudler. I would recall Hickey. Lewis and Harrold
Kurri - no way you're getting off the hook saying to replace Murray and Kompon and only suggesting the replacement be "under 83 and is familar with the new NHL system and rules".
If you're going to throw that out there, you need to back it up. Forget Kompon, I don't expect anyone to suggest who should be an assistant coach. But I really want to know what coach you think is better suited to make this Kings team more successful.
I wouldn't respond to your post with:
* - Kopitar - Williams
* = anyone who's aged 23-32, making less than $5m/yr with either a 20+G history or 30+G potential and can be acquired for picks/prospects
You say Murray is not the coach for us, fine. Who is? And why?
Good answer! I'll help rally support to make you GM if you wanna throw me a 2-year deal @ league minimum. I'll even be the 7th d-man or the 14th forward.
-Smyth (makes his line predictable but would wait for replacement. After that i would send him to Manchester)
Is that actually a possibility? I don't mean rules-wise, I mean appropriate- and would-he-do-it-wise. I know Chelios spent time in the AHL before he retired, but Captain Canada? I'm actually legitimately asking, btw. Upon first seeing that I was pretty taken aback, but I know it's not unheard of...
Agree with firing Kompon and Murray. Go after a good young coach. Trade Stoll. Keep Handzus. Trade for Semin and sign him to an extension. Get rid of Smyth. Not a huge fan of his or his contract. Resign Poni.

Smyth has a NMC, just like Handzus. He would have to approve of being assigned to the AHL.

I will tell you exactly............
I'm talking about people like that Nashville coach. He looks funny but is a genious coach.
I'm always impressed with Nashville's style. They have absolute no talent but the coaching style is awesome.
They play an aggressive flashy attacking style paired with a tight defense.
They offense moves are well trained and structured. They know exactly what to do to force someone out of position to enter the zone and open a passing lane. Their cross passing is sick. Same for the defense positioning. They are that aggressive, the opponents don't have any time to create something. You really have to work hard to get at least into their zone.
Just watch us......... we need hours to enter the opponents zone, everyone does whatever he has in mind. If nothing else helps shoot the puck into the corner and turn the puck over............ not to mention our PP or the defense positioning.
This balling up in front of our net and leaving the winger and defender completely alone screams for juicy rebounds
WHY is Mitchell on the third pairing?
Greene on the first is COMPLETE fail.
I can't take you or this thread serious.
Well... i'm not asking you for taking me serious.
Fact is ... Greene isn't working well with Johnson.
That limits the pairing shuffling a little bit. You don't want to pair Doughty or Johnson with a rookie because that would decrease their offensive game.
That makes it just Doughty - Scuderi but that would create a Greene - Johnson pair.
If you want to create defense pairs with one offensive and one defensive guys you have to spread them over 3 lines.
This has nothing to with 1st, 2nd or 3rd line like at offensive lines or talent.
If you have a situation like here in L.A. you would be insane to play the defense lines like 1st pairing or 3rd pairing minutes.
We need 3 well balanced lines playing equal minutes.
If you feel better i post a lineup like that
Johnson - Scuderi
Mitchell - A-Mart
Doughty - Greene
I think we just need a LW to play with Kopitar. Otherwise I like the team we have. I'm fine with taking a chance with Sturm if he's healthy enough to play. If that doesn't plan out, he's a good character guy to have around, and we can make another addition at the trade deadline.

No talent in Nashville? Other than Kopitar LA is pretty much the same as Nashville! Legwand, Dumont, Erat and Sullivan are the same type of players we have in LA with the exception being they have SPEED. To play their style it greatly helps to have speed. Yes we could play a different style but we need to remember sometimes you need to coach the players you have.
I much rather see Smyth, Handzus and Stoll dump the puck in than try to make a move with their lack of foot speed or stick handling at the blueline.
I'll play.. I think Jack Johnson has INCREDIBLE skill. As a matter of fact, that is a fact. Unfortunately, that doesn't always translate into NHL success. Its not that JJ is necessarily playing BAD, I feel that he's playing OKAY and I also feel that he would excel with a different club who plays a different style. He's not a very "heady" player which is one of the most crucial things to be if you're going to a defenseman.
On top of that I have full confidence in our defense prospects (specifically Thomas Hickey) that he/they can come up and fill his void next season. Therefore, the first thing on my agenda would be to package Johnson (especially cause I feel he doesn't even want to be here) for a scoring LW, preferably Semin. Then hopefully, (if Hickey, Voynov, Muzzin REALLY aren't ready) acquiring a defenseman to replace Johnson.. Say maybe.. Martinek/Wisniewski?
So next season potentially looking at:
Semin-Kopitar-Brown
Smyth-Stoll-Williams
Clifford-Schenn-Simmonds
Loktionov-Richardson-(Anybody not named Lewis/Westgarth)
PP Unit:
Semin-Kopitar-Loktionov
Doughty-Hickey
Doughty-Scuderi
Hickey-Mitchell
Greene-Muzzin/Voynov/One of the defenseman we got at the deadline

Why not just the original D lineup with a tweak?
Doughty - Mitchell
Johnson - Scuderi
Greene - Martinez
Greene is not playing with Johnson and Doughty doesn't have to play on the third pairing. What a concept!
