Not really, its a slight overpayment but Jordan Staal already is one of the better two way centers in the league. You have to give to get. BTW I dont like either team so from an unbiased angles that seems about fair, maybe swap the 7th for a 3rdish but Staal is an elite player.
And you'll need a gun and ski mask to get him out of Philly.
Unfortunately the Flyers aren't in need of cap relief, but I wouldn't be surprised if Eklund is talking about that nonsensical crap about Toronto trying to get JVR.
If Toronto is still trying to go after JVR, that sounds pretty desperate.

Our best defenceman and our best prospect? Doubts, its clear your a Habs fan. Would you give up Subban and Eller? Doubts
I took the liberty of compiling a list of the top three picks who are a) still in the NHL, b) past their entry-level deals, and c) playing for teams with less than $1 million in cap space. They are:
- Kane, Toews, Crosby, Malkin, Heatley, the Sedins, Thornton, Marleau and Pronger simply aren't moving.
- Horton and Kovalchuk were acquired too recently and won't be moved again.
- The Leafs aren't going to trade for more D and goalies. They need forwards. Scratch Fleury, Bouwmeester, Stuart and Phillips.
- Modano is injured long-term and may not return this year, so he's out.
That leaves Jordan Staal, Jason Spezza and Olli Jokinen. Staal and Spezza have both been involved in trade rumours before, and there are plausible reasons why their teams might want to move them: Staal is paid $4 million per year to be Pittsburgh's third-line center and the Pens may want to spend that on other areas, such as a winger for Crosby, whereas Spezza has been underachieving for quite a while at a cap hit of $7 million. For his part, Jokinen could be had for a crap in a jar if you're desperate.
I think Spezza is the one that makes the most sense. The Leafs need a talented, creative, playmaking center for their top line, while Ottawa needs a physical defensive blueliner, of which the Leafs have a few. Of course, Toronto would need to sweeten the pot quite a bit, but that's what I see here.
I agree that would be a huge overpayment from the Leafs but the proposal of Kulemin + 2nd will not get the Leafs Jordan Staal.. The Leafs would have to sweeten the deal more to get Pittsburgh to even consider moving Staal..
Ask any Penguins fan or any NHL fan really who they would rather have in their line up and 99% would pick Staal over Kulemin.. The Pens have zero incentive to trade Staal unless it's for a major overpayment and something they just can't refuse..
Zherdev was 4th overall, playing on our 4th line, and would be on Toronto's 1st line.
Sure Eklund didn't mean Zherdev?
hmm thats interesting and possible. I just dont know if burke would want a player like him. I Hope not the needs right now is a center with size and power
Jokinen, Dumont, Legwand, Lecavalier, JVR? Really the whole cap space thing makes it all but bs.
This actually makes sense. Dumont has been hideously bad this year but was 3rd overall in 1996. Paid $4 million for this year and next. Currently on the 3rd line in Nashville and I'm sure they'd take just about anything for him.

not trying to say ur wrong but I think the fact they have no wingers worth while is probly a good enough reason to consider it. I wasnt sure exaclty what would be fair what do u think needs to be added. If there looking to shed salary prolly a pick eh. Adding another pick help? or a prospect.

just saw this and was wondering for fun who he's talking about in the third leafs quote. it's eklund so 99% chance it doesn't happen but which player would fit this rumor.
Quick Hits...
*Add Minnesota to the names possibly involved with Toronto.
*NJ and Toronto may be the most likely partners, with more talk the Leafs may go after Langenbrunner.
* The Leafs may have some serious interest in a "former top 3 pick in the draft on a team in dire need of freeing cap space."
It's not a rumor if it predicts the sun will shine tomorrow-- unless it's cloudy. [basically this "rumor" says nothing]
Secondly.....
All rumors must have a link.
If you don't want to link to Ek, don't post his rumors.
If you don't want to read Ek rumors, ignore the thread and definitely do not click on the link.
