I promise to buy season tickets for the next 3 years if Fatrick ditches the fist pump celebration and goes with the truffle shuffle.

If Couture wasn't so awesome right now, I would totally switch.

In case anyone is wondering, he most likely has a bunch of visceral fat (beneath the abdominal muscles). That fat is extremely difficult to burn (basically requires a calories deficit that would first break down a lot of his muscles). So yeah, it's here to stay. The jokes are great though.

Link is safe for work but has unpleasant pictures nonetheless:

Thank you doctor. But I don't think Marleau qualifies for the diagnosis unless you believe he leads a sedentary lifestyle. The fat to which you refer is built up over a long period (insert gross picture of me). That kind of sedentary behavior would have shown in his play, come out in the press like it did with Seto, and been noticed over a long period. Its honestly an over analysis to start to suppose just what type of fat Patty is carrying. Its even getting a little creepy now.

The point of the observation was it looked like he took the summer off. That was all. That's an indicator about motivation and drive this year. But he'll burn it off, get back into shape (if he isn't already) and hopefully he and the team decide to find the inner drive soon to start skating and competing every night.

That avatar is great, but it's so mean. Marleau really has to step up tonight.

Unfortunately, I deleted the Tampa game or I would cap the other shot of Patty.

Have to say, there was something weird about that "gut". My daughter and I did a double take because he was only fat in a ring around his belly. Muffin-top like when your jeans are too tight.

We both commented that something was pushing his skin up because it looked unnatural. It wasn't like a beer belly or a gut that you usually see on an out of shape dude. And how could he be fat in just that one area?? IDK but I check Patty out enough (I'm not ashamed) and the only time I've gotten the "fat" impression was that one video.
I'm sorry, but I totally disagree with everyone on this thread who thinks Patty is fat. Having been around a fair amount of olympic-level athletes (college friends), I can tell you that sitting shots of stomachs/cores like this, or even standing shots during and after exercise, can look "undefined" or "blobby" even when a person is in ridiculously good shape.

Models, etc. who have obscenely low body fats and very well defined ab muscles are not actually athletic. True athletes's abs and cores aren't actually that nicely defined - more like huge lumps of muscle. When you wear, say, hockey pants and you're in the middle of a game, your muscle tone is a little soft and gets pushed up a bit. it looks a little "pudgy", but in reality, there's not much fat there.

For what it's worth, I think patty looks extremely fit in this shot, for a guy in the middle/just after a game. By the way, I say the same thing about that shirtless Patrick Kane shot, even though i despise the guy. He's obviously fit -- people just don't know what truly athletically fit looks like any more.

That picture is from last year though, where Marleau came into the season as one of the most fit on the team. The shots from this year were much more flabby, and there were multiple shots of him sitting down and standing up.

I haven't seen a definitive picture of Marleau to compare to the shots I saw this year so I can't say for sure if it has gotten worse or not, but the belly is there. You are right though when you're saying that most people are overreacting. I think most of us here are just poking fun at him and not seriously bashing him about it.

Fat people are funny after all.

You know, I'm gonna take this in a positive spin and say that Marleau waited until deep in the playoffs last year when it was REALLY important to start to play. Clearly, as the games got more important, he played better.

Dear Patrick Marleau, please come back soon from your mysterious recurring invisible injury and prove all these doubters wrong. You and I both know your $6.9 million is second to none. Love, Ron Wilson.

You know what? I've realized he's being smart. He's saving his energy for when Juicy and Clowe slow down. Then he'll go beast mode to keep us winning. Well played Mr. Marleau. Well played.

Couture has slowed down. No points tonight. Kid is a total bust.
