Guess Nabby not getting signed was a decent idea?

Nabokov's former team is citing a family matter.

TSN Linkage

Quote:
Goalie Evgeni Nabokov has been released from his contract with SKA St. Petersburg of the Russian KHL due to what the team is calling "family circumstances".

The announcement was made on the SKA St. Petersburg website on Monday.

The former San Jose Sharks netminder was 8-8-5 in 22 games this season, with a save percentage of .888 and a 3.02 GAA. He played in the team's most recent game on Friday, and was pulled after giving up a pair of goals against Nizhny Novgorod during a 5-2 loss.

Yeah, I wanted Turco or Biron if I remember correctly. Either would've been fine in my opinion.

That said, Bobrovsky would not be our goalie today had we gotten Biron back.

I wanted, in order:

Biron, Turco, Mason, Theodore

I suppose I can eat crow about Mason and possibly Turco, but I still don't see why having Bob play in the AHL this season would have been bad - even with all the man love I have for the guy.

We STILL may have hurt his development for all we know. Lest we forget Boucher, Ceckmanek and Esche's early years (and Hextall to a lesser extent).

I read that as Warminister first, and immediately the lyrics "99 Kriegsminister, Streichholz und Benzinkanister, hielten sich für schlaue Leute, witterten schon fette Beute, riefen Krieg und wollten macht, man wer hätte das gedacht, dass es einmal soweit kommt wegen 99 Luftballons" popped into my head.

Anyway, you can't link to images from your google mail account. Upload it on imgur.com or somewhere.

Maybe...but Bobrovsky has more raw athleticism and work ethic than any of those 3. Not that they didn't have any, but that's something Bob brings to the table in spades.

There were two concerns with Bob getting the starting position:
1. Development with his first goaltending coach. (Looks okay so far.)
2. The ability to handle a large workload. (Looks okay so far.)

We're starting to see signs that #1 will be okay. #2 we won't know until he's had multiple seasons in the NHL.

Comparatively based on experience, Cechmanek had 5 years in the Czech league before the Flyers. Esche had 3 years in the NHL before becoming the Flyers' goalie. Boucher had 2 seasons in the AHL. Bobrovsky had 3 years in the KHL.

Their experiences were all completely different and on different levels of play. It's hard to say how each was effected by their early years with the Flyers because of this.

according to Tim Panaccio via twitter Walker reinjured his hip over the weekend. I wonder how many will view this as convient with Leighton ready to come back.

BTW, Ryan scoring with Koivu's stick is still one of the most glorious things I've seen in hockey.

How unfortunate! I'm serious. I feel bad for him getting injured and all, but it's convinient for the team and cap.
