Maxim to stay in Russia?

A certain blog site (hint, hint) is saying that Afinogenov may stay in Russia playing for Moscow Dynamo for next season. This is not fact, but just what is written on the site.

Max will most likely be back.

I don't know why he wouldn't be willing to come back to the US when his family lives here.

Does it even matter? There probably won't even be an NHL season next year.

I agree that max is all flash and no finish but atleast he's getting better defensively and using his linemates to create as opposed to thold max who streaked down the wing beat the d-man and then flubbed a shot.....he'll never be pavel bure, but he has another season or two to improve into a samsonov like player before i'll call him overrated

While Max is one of my favorite players, he wouldn't be a huge loss with our forward logjam.

However, a certain blog site is routinely wrong and I don't think Max will stay there.

Yeah right. What makes you put any faith in the NHL?

At this point, Maxim's best bet is to stay in Russia.

I completly agree with this statment. Max does have the speed and skill to be effective, and now with some of the new Amerks making the team, they can only compliment him more so. I really hope he returns to the Sabres. Kalinin too. We cannot afford to lose our best D-Man.

And yes, Rangers SUCK!!

Well I hope he comes back. In the world championships he had some great play around the end of it, so maybe he could bring that back to sabres if there is hockey next season.

This rumor is far more believable in my opinion.

Darcy was just on WGR with Howard Simon and they talked about Max situation. Darcy commented that there was a lot of money being thrown around over seas these days and it was possible that Max and Dmitri Kalinin will be playing in Russia next season. Let's hope they can get something done so we can have those two on the opening day roster.

Was I the only one who noticed Max's effort level shoot through the roof in 03-04? He was passing extremely well and using his speed to help on defense and backcheck. I just posted in another thread about this, but I really felt like he was starting to turn a corner when he was on the line with Bartovic and Roy.

You're free to your opinions but man, that just isn't fair. So he doesn't have the best hands... you know, if he wasn't so good at getting opportunities we wouldn't cause such a fuss about the fact he isn't a great goalscorer. We let ourselves get our expectations too high, though he can certainly still be a good goalscorer if everything falls into place. Regardless, he's got the speed and he's got the effort. That alone doesn't make him an all-star but it sure keeps him from being garbage. He would easily have had over 20 goals if he was on the top two lines for any considerable period of time or played all 82 games. He may never get that chance in Buffalo with all our forwards but let's not hold that against him. If he has to go he has to go but he certainly isn't garbage.

I certainly hope you weren't the only one to notice. If I recall we had quite a few posts about Max's solid effort particularly when the Napoleon line got together. Even if he doesn't improve his scoring rate per chances, he's still creating lots of them. So long as he can not be a defensive liability his speed and effort are an asset just by wearing the other team down.

i just screamed like a 4 year old girl who got the wrong barbie
i dont think max would be a devastating loss, but i view kalinin as the franchise player right now, pay him whatever he wants to keep his tail in buffalo

side not, i think max is overrated and dont expect his game to change from what it has been, but i dont think he's garbage and don't dislike him as a player
he is the best stickhandler and skater on the team- unfortunately that hasnt translated into results yet

I think people dislike Maxim because they all expected him to be the next Pavel Bure... but as long as he isn't making too much money, I'd be very happy with him being a solid 3rd liner who chips in 20-20-40 a year.
