Great game by Iggy, great 1st period by Backlund. Jokinen has even shown some recent spurts of good play here and there. Brent looked pumped after Iggy's OT goal, I've never seen him show that much emotion. You really gotta feel for the guy because he is trying everything.

The fan in me is happy the Flames got a win, but another part of me is hoping the Flames tank so they can get a high draft pick. I think we will all know more by the end of the month what is going to be done.

Thats what happens when your coach is Brent Sutter and you have a 2-0 Lead.

SIT ON IT BOYZ!!

Their is a reason we have such trouble winning in regulation.

I'm not buying that nonsense for one second. I highly doubt Brent Sutter instructs the team to sit on a lead when they have one.

No its just a coincidence that we play by far our worst hockey with a lead, Devils fans will tell you and have told us about this same problem.

Their is a clear drop in play and style of play when we have a lead.

Not the best game ever but at least we won in the end.

Say what you say about the Flames slumping... Iginla is back and all the haters can shove it. Unfortunately its taking its slow *** time for the team to catch up. Hopefully they will.

For quite some time now this team has had a habit of getting too high of themselves and letting the opposition off the hook when they get a lead. It sure isn't because they're focusing too much on their defensive awareness 'cause they're getting scored on. To imply that Brent Sutter encourages the team to "shut it down" when they have the lead is nothing short of ridiculous. Just because he wants the team to play well defensively doesn't mean he doesn't want them to score.

We have to trade Iggy now that he has increased his trade value.

Good game. Finally nice to see Iginla start throwing this group on his back every once and a while. Kipper the guy might be having his best season since 04.

But how many freaking times is Jokinen going to blindly pass the puck behind him right onto the oppositions stick.

I cannot believe Sutter Re-Signed this guy. Is there anything between his ears?!

I would take Jokinen over Stajan at this point. Stajan has been utterly useless since his arrival, but he's untradeable because of the terrible contract Sutter gave him.

Anyway, how did Backlund look with Iginla?

They didn't really play with each other the whole game. Iggys first goal I think was just a result of the line change. But Backlund had another good effort tonight hopefully it starts to turn into more points and he may find himself playing with Iggy on a regular basis.

It is mind boggling to me why this hasn't happened already? Play Iggy with a creative centre... that is just crazy talk

Backlund's reliable two-way game and offensive creativity is just too valuable to be put to good use.

I could see if Jokinen or Stajan were consistently producing with Iggy, but Jokinen has been pretty much useless all season and well Stajan has been a healthy scratch the last 2 games. Maybe Conroy and Morrison should get the call before Backlund. Give the dam kid a shot already!

Yeah, and his seven points are so damn impressive. Nothing says playoffs like having a rookie first line center who's on pace to score 18 points this year! Stajan has 15 or 16 in 27 games or something. He hasn't done a terrible job between Iggy and Tangs, but hopefully the benching will fire him up and he'll go from not terrible to good.

I can't believe the hate for Stajan recently... the guy has produced to the point levels expected of him... sure his goal production is low... but his assists have been a pleasant surprise... IMO Stajan on pace for 45-50 assists is nice to see and this hate he gets is unwarranted... keep in mind he is not a #1 center and its not his fault he was being used as such

And Jokinen has been that much better?

There is no denying that Backlund hasn't lived up to his potential offensively this season. You know what might help though? Not playing with Glencross and Jackman for the first month and a half. Getting some PP time maybe?

Exactly. Give him some ice-time, especially since everything this coaching staff has tried already has not worked. Why not let Backlund run the PP and play some first line minutes with Iggy and Tangs. It makes no sense not to give him the opportunity.

Regardless of Stajan being a first line centre or not, I still don't care for what he brings to the table. Way to passive of a player, guys like that will never push a team to win a cup. When the playoffs roll around no team could turn to a guy like Stajan and have a prayer of winning a tough series. Stajan is mediocre at everything and special at nothing. Poor choice to sign to a big extension, way to be Sutter.

Playing on the 3rd line with hardly any PP time (Stajan gets over 2 minutes a night, and has 0 PP points this year) isn't going to translate into production that will turn heads. But when Backlund has been given a rare chance to play with more skilled players, we've seen good things. But the problem is that he's never been given a fair shot to actually gel and get things going.
