He makes $5 mil this year and next. Now I know why the Devils are in cap hell (so to speak).

Actually on re-entry waivers, I think Rolston makes sense for the Oil, he's a veteran, a center who can kill penalties and win draws. If it's at half the price, I don't see much of a downside.

I doubt he'd fall to us on re-entry waivers.

I don't disagree, I'm just saying if he's there on re-entry waivers, a claim makes sense for the Oil.

He's done, physically.

I wouldn't take the chance.

Yes. I love the waiver threads. I think Dustin Boyd went back on waivers again.

I know he can win draws and kill penalties, but I don't know why the Oilers would want him, even at half price.

I'm pretty sure they're sticking with this group unless some kind of Souray deal goes down or a quality young player becomes available.

Hasn't he always said that he never wants to play in Canada?

Doesn't have the option when he's on waivers.

He's at 32% winning 9 of 28. He's also listed as a winger for the Devils. He hasn't taken very many faceoffs the past couple of years.

We should sign him for 5 years so he "likes us".

My feeling is that the Devils will be biting the bullet and buying Rolston out if he isn't taken on re-entry. No point in paying him 100% of his salary when you can cut your losses and pay 67%.

A buy out would be 6.7M spread over 4 seasons. 1.675M in cap and financial penalties for 4 years.

This is actually what I believe the Oilers should have done with Souray. No point in paying him every nickle to play in Hershey. I suppose this summer the Oilers could buy-out Souray at 3M spread over two seasons (1.5M). That would at least ensure that when Paajarvi, Hall and Eberle are up for new contracts there isn't any dead cap space left on the books.

Not really the point - why would we pursue (assuming he was worth pursuing) someone who has explicitly stated that he doesn't want to be here?

They can't buy him out during the season.

Don't want him. Where does he fit on the roster? I doubt he reitres, but if he does then we are on the hook for the salary. Not worth the risk.

Does anybody know wether they now have his cap hit off the books?

I don't think so as it is a +35 contract.

It would be interesting if it was like this, as then it would be sure that he will get on re-entry, as it wouldn't make any sense to have a cap hit of 5millions for a player that isn't even on your team when you are in cap hell (you would have to replace him with another player that also has a cap hit).

if he could pass the physical I would take a chance on recall waivers. I have always liked Rolston and I think he could help in the dressing room. But as other people say--on recall waivers I think the NYI would grab him

He's on a 35+ contract. So even if he clears and is sent down the Devils still are stuck with his contract on their cap.

This guy has been a bad hockey player since being in New Jersey. I'd stay away even at 1/2 price.

You forgot about the fact that the Islanders master plan for this season is to ice an AHL team in order to tank.

I'm split about Rolston. Actually I think that he exactely is a kind of player we need.

On the other side he seems a bit like he is already done in the NHL to me.

It will be interesting to see if he in fact gets assigned after he clears.

Assigned doesn't do anything for the Devils other than add another roster spot for them, which actually is worse if you think about it.

Rolston 5 years ago would have been nice, but he's long removed from being that player. He hasn't played center in quite some time. The Oilers are set in the wings.

Washed up, terrible contract. Sounds like the missing piece.

No, but if they assign him, then that means they can put him through re-entry waivers making him more appealing to other teams and possibly getting themselves out of half the cap hit at least.
