That's what I was thinking. Can't believe that some guys here really want to take him.

I love waiver threads. If HFBoards member ran NHL teams, no player in the history of waivers would ever clear.

No it actually helps make room for Parise' return. Giving them a full lineup as opposed to a potential 17 player disaster that took place earlier in the season.

I wasn't suggesting that it was a better move initially but it might be after all. Rolston on re-entry isn't all that bad either. Either way Lou needs to see if he can sucker someone into taking the 35+ contract on for the next two years.

Next summer

A buy out would be 6.7M spread over 4 seasons. 1.675M in cap and financial penalties for 4 years.

This is actually what I believe the Oilers should have done with Souray. No point in paying him every nickle to play in Hershey. I suppose this summer the Oilers could buy-out Souray at 3M spread over two seasons (1.5M). That would at least ensure that when Paajarvi, Hall and Eberle are up for new contracts there isn't any dead cap space left on the books.
Rolston can be bought up in the summer 2011 not before

Let us trade Souray for Rolston

This might be a win win situation. No one will claim Rolston from the re-entry waivers. He is also in the cap books because of his age.

The trade will make the sense if they but something on the top of it let us say Devils 3rd pick in the draft

Ya, but it's buried salary. And they only have to pay 4.5 million of real dollars.

He's 35+, so my understanding is he doesn't come off the cap.

That would be correct.

I'm not sure that is either team's goal. Souray for Rolston+ makes perfect sense, that is if Rolston would waive his NTC.

If Lou doesn't like Souray on his team then he can send him to the minors and not worry about the over 35 clause. Rolston would be a stop gap for us that would probably be dealt at some point next year. Although this is a summer time deal.

Rolston can't come off the cap, Souray at 5.4mil(4.5mil salary) can.

Oh, I see, you're saying trade Rolston for Souray, they get the cap saving, we get something nice for cap hit, I don't mind that.

I still think, at half his salary, for this team, he could be mildly useful. He's better then either Jacques or Stortini.

Not at that price though, although we really shouldn't care too much about his contract this year and next.

I think the swap with the Devils might net us a pick, because to be honest they'd probably need to get rid of Rolston this summer more than we have to with Souray.
