Poni has 2 goals and 3 assists and 1/2 as many games.
To me, both these guys are disapointing.
Frolov, yes. The Rangers were expecting the sniper that many seem to think Frolov is (instead of the 2nd/3rd line puck possession guy we all know him to be).
Poni, not so much. He's been extremely valuable on the PK and in the shut down role.
I don't think one should expect more than a .33 PPG average from that kind of role player. I've been very happy with what Poni has brought to the table. He also did an excellent job in the DET game of getting just a bit of space and then putting a shot on goal. I think he registered 2 of our first 3 shots on goal in that game (when we were getting outplayed by DET).
The Rags may not like Fro but if things keep going the way they are with him he should net right at 20 goals and close to as many assists.
Poni brings different things to the table but I don't think that he will come close to providing the same amount of offense that Frolov will when all is said and done.
The question imo is what do we offer Poniboy for what he brings to the table next season.
I see him at half or less of what he is being paid this year. If not there are other's who can do the same job for less.
I do think that PB has the ability to pick up his scoring and even maintain his solid d forward play. Its up to him but if he wants to earn in the $3m range he's gonna have to pick it up.
If not pay him less and keep him as a d forward.
I think that we will be icing a different team this coming season by a bit.
I guess another question is do we move off players like Zuess/Poni and maybe even another so that we can get that legitimate speed/skill top line LW and let the kids fill the holes?

Thats the point Im getting across.. People say hes not a 2nd line center yet everything shows that he is one. Just because he doesnt put up 60+ doesnt mean hes not a #2. Not many guys are going to be able to replace him and the ones that can arent going to come cheap.

No worried it happens to all of us. Some just need to realize that the days of true @ guys putting up a lot of points isnt going to happen anymore. Hell only 25 guys put up 60+ at the center position last year.
Why Handzus is the perfect #3 and if Stoll gets deal who in all reality is going to replace him?

All that's about is the idea that someone in the prospect pool (Loki or Schenn) will be ready next year to be a 2nd line center. I'm thinking both are a good year away from that. One think to make the NHL very much another to be a major point of the offense.

Handzus is done as a Kings unless he signs for less than $2 million, which isn't going to happen. Stoll, Schenn and Loktionov will battle for the #2 and #3 center positions next season. Lewis and Richardson will be available for the depth center position (4th line).

People forget the Smolinski days when a goal drought for the #2 center sometimes lasted for something like 15-20 games.
I feel that Lewis is working his way into the 3rd line center spot. He has shown a lot so far this year. Speed and good defensive play. I would like to keep Schenn in the 2nd line center spot which is what we drafted him for. The problem is Loki, he has shown flashes to. Still would rather see Schenn there though, convert Loki to a wing or trade him.
I could see paying Zus 2.5. I just see other teams willing to pay him more.
I really like Zeus but he looks like he is starting to slow down. He is a step behind last year and I think as much as TM and DL love him, if the price ain't right, he will be gone.

My concern is that he won't be able to do that next year.
And i stay away from extending contract because of what a player has done in the past.
This year it looks that he lost a step. If that continues with Parse back on his side i would stay away from resigning it. At this point he can't show something that Lewis or Stoll can't.
IMO Stoll would be the perfect 3rd line center. He wins the faceoff in critical moments and can play in a shut down role as good as Handzus can.
As long as we keep Stoll away from the PP i prefer him over HAndzus from next season on

Trade
Alexander Semin RW and Washington's third round selection in 2011 to LA Kings for Wayne Simmonds RW, Rob Scuderi D, Andrei Loktionov LW/C and LA Kings 1st round selection in 2011 should LA sign Semin.
The logic
From the Caps point of view: Simmonds and Scuderi fit right into the Caps roster. Simmonds is a hardworking player whose work ethic alone can inspire his new teammates. Should benefit more for the Eastern Conference style of play by being physical and adding offence, Simmonds is extremely underrated and maybe undervalued.
Scuderi is one of the defenceman who helped the Penguins to a Stanley Cup and the type of player that would be needed to get this club out of its first-round funk.
Loktionov is another player who could provide some great two-way play at the second line center position for the Capitals. He is able to play minutes on the second half of the power play and skates very well.
From the Kings: Power play and top six minutes await Semin where ever he may land. Although the Kings need a left winger who brings the type of game Semin brings to the right side, Semin in a Kings uniform makes a lot more sense than adding a player such as Kovalchuk.
Kings Captain Dustin Brown is more than capable to play on the right wing. Add that Simmonds would be gone should this deal occur, opportunity for Oscar Moller and Trevor Lewis to stick with the Kings.
Giving up a first round selection is the price of doing business. It would ultimately come down to how much Kings GM Dean Lombardi is will to give up from the parent team's roster.
Would you consider this trade if Washington offered it? I don't think Dean would do it.
As much as I'd love to see Semin as a King, there is no way the Kings do that move for a potential UFA. There is nobody who can replace Scuderi and Simmonds is an integral player on the checking line. Removing him would be like neutering the Kings. Pass. And seeing how it is from a banned site, I see it is for good reason why the link would be filtered out.
