I like it. He will add more of an edge than MZA would have which is good since it's Callahan he is replacing. It also allows MZA to continue riding his production and getting comfortable.

No need to rush it.

I doubt we will force him into PKing early, but if he throws his weight around and knocks in a goal or two he should get some attention. He seems like a Torts player.

For starters, a little more edge than White in the lineup tomorrow vs. the Phlyers.

Yeah, Drury and Cally are similar.

I see more of Jason Ward in Dale Weise, he doesn't have the footspeed or (somewhat recently developed) offensive skills.

But if he can be an effective 4th liner he'll have done better than most overage picks.

BTW a reminder;

4 of our 2008 draft picks have now spent time on the Rangers roster;

2. Stepan
3. Grachev (Kundratek)
4. Weise
5. (Doyle)
6. (Dalton)

Also, Kelsey Tessier was picked one spot behind Weise in the 08 draft. And Kundratek from all reports has been playing well.

I'm not a fan of the overage pick (see Jason Wilson), but I think Weise will have a solid NHL career. Whether it's as a fourth liner or better, we shall see. But happy to see him get the call-up.

I was exactly thinking that last night. If I had to replace Cally only by work ethic and leadership, definitely Drury.

Yea I'd bet it's a mix of
A) He does actually play more of the current Rangers game so it makes sense for him not just to fill Cally's spot but to add to the current makeup of the team.

B) He's a vet AHLer and system guy and a prospect we've had awhile whose time and future with this team should be right about now so it makes sense to evaluate him like they did Byers earlier and if it's not working explore a possible trade. Not that much would come back. Byers did net Kolarik who is playing and scoring well though.

Weise is a player who should have made the team out of camp. On most NHL teams, he is a 4th line players from Day 1 of this season. The guy does the dirty work and plays the game the right way. His points will transition to the NHL because the types of goals and points he puts up are there at every level of competition. He goes to the net hard and scores goals from in close. Excited to see him play.

Yeah Ward, Sjostrom, Hossa, Boyle, Bourret, Lisin all first round pick reclamation projects.

I know i'm forgetting a few.

Anyways, I hope he plays over White. I dont think they call up a younger guy on a hot streak to be a scratch. White doesnt look that comfortable at RW, and I think our PK group is pretty well set without his assistance.

Avery-Christensen-Weise is an odd line, but it could get some chances.

Think they realized that a while ago but they rather have a vet as the spare then a kid even if it eats up 2.3 million in cap space. Not sure I agree

me likely the Weise call up though. I think this kid can slide into the lineup next yr

I figure guys like Feds, Vinny just walk and they continue the youth with MZA and Weise as everyone is a year older

Lisin was 2nd round pick in 2004.
